Home Remedies For Urticaria: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

Urticaria is also referred to as hives and is a common skin disorder caused by allergic reactions in ones skin. In some cases the causes may be non allergic too. It can cause itchy bumps and swelling that can be either red or skin-colored. They can also cause a burning sensation in the affected area and can cause muscle soreness. They are many medications available, but these can be restricted by some simple home remedies.

  1. Cold Compress
A cold compress is the best way to keep the urticaria symptoms under control. The temperature can help shrink the blood vessels and can block further swelling and burning sensations. To use this, put some ice cubes in a thin towel and place it on the affected area for about 10 minutes. You can use it as necessary for a few days till the symptoms subsidizes.
  2. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is also an effective way to keep such condition under check. It can also help fight bacterial or viral infections that could be causing the problems. To use it, add a cup of raw apple cider vinegar to a tub of warm water. Soak in it for30 minutes daily. You can even mix apple cider vinegar to equal portions of water and apply it on the affected area for better results.
  3. Baking Soda
Baking soda helps relieve the itching sensation drastically. It also prevents further irritation and inflammation. To prepare it, mix a part of baking soda to 3 parts of water and apply it n the affected area. You can even add baking soda to your bath by mixing it to a bucket or tub of water. Never use this in its raw format and always mix it with water before applying.

Are there any side effects?

Skin care for hives can be tricky and can lead to side effects if not done properly. Always try using unfiltered natural apple cider vinegar, as it would be more effective on your condition. Do not use large amounts of baking soda as it can cause allergic reactions for some users. While applying cold press, make sure that the water is clean and treated. If you feel that the condition is worsening, or the itchiness has increased, or your muscles feel sorer, then contact a doctor at the earliest.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

Don't step out in the sun right after following such home remedies. But if you have to, make sure your skin is covered well. Use sunglass, umbrella and scarves for extra protection. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin supple and control itchiness. Avoid using any cosmetics or skincare products immediately after applying these remedies.

How long does it take to recover?

Recovering from hives usually depends on the severity of your condition. It can also vary from one individual to another. You can although see some positive changes immediately after starting these remedies. But the permanency of the treatment can take some time and depends on your skin type. In case of grave discomfort, seek a doctor's help without delay.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

There are many instances where this condition has been cured but has returned due to lack of proper care. This skin ailment also occurs more frequently as one ages. Hence make sure you start following these remedies as soon as this problem appears. Protect your skin from the sun, drink adequate water and avoid cosmetics or chemical skincare products for long term benefits.

Is there any training or experts required?

As stated earlier, taking care of skin problems is a tricky business, even if it doesn't require training. Hence, know your skin type and any allergic reactions you might have before undergoing these treatments. Use the ingredients in correct proportions to avoid side effects. In case you have any doubts, do not hesitate to seek advice from your doctor.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Urticaria and Angioedema!

What is angioedema?

Angioedema or Chronic Urticaria is a form of severe swelling beneath the surface layer of the skin. In most of the cases, the swelling occurs along with the appearance of hives. This is why angioedema is commonly referred to as “giant hives.” They tend to be itchy and red boils can develop on the surface of the skin. They are predominantly caused by an allergic reaction to food or medication. Many other factors can also trigger angioedema. These can include pollen grains and insect bites. Angioedema is not a serious medical condition and only in some extreme cases, they tend to get really serious. It usually goes away on its own.

Symptoms
The most common symptom of Angioedema is the swelling beneath the surface of the skin. It may occur on any skin surface and can include your feet, hands, back, and lips. The other common symptom is the presence of the red boils on the surface of the skin. Additional symptoms of angioedema can include rashes, stomach cramping and in some cases swollen throat and difficulty in breathing. Difficulty in breathing can get serious if not treated immediately. Seek medical attention immediately if you get those symptoms.

Causes and Diagnosis:
Angioedema is caused predominantly by allergic reactions. Everybody condition is different and the allergic levels of your body can depend on various factors. Some of them can be even hereditary. Some of them can be due to insect bites, pollen allergies, poison oak or ivy, medications and certain types of food. It can also be due to illness or an underlying medical condition. There are certain risk factors too involved in it and this can include a previous allergic reaction, injury, stress and anxiety and as stated earlier – hereditary. Diagnosis is by a physical examination and in most cases, the doctors would examine the areas of the swelling. Your blood samples would also be tested and the substances that have caused the allergic reactions are identified first.

Treatment:
Angioedema is a condition that can go away on its own. Hence minor symptoms and minor skin allergies do not require medical treatment. Moderate symptoms, however, do require treatment and mostly these involve drugs and medications to curb the itching and swelling. There are also certain home remedies that can be used to relieve such symptoms. You can use wet compress, cold press and wear cotton clothes to avoid itching and scratching. In many instances, the agents that cause the irritants are identified first and then the patient is advised to stay from those agents. For example, if a certain type of food is causing you allergic reactions, then you might be asked to stay away from it. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can ask a free question.

Homeopathic Remedies for Urticaria Hives!!

‘Hives’ or ‘urticaria’ can be defined as an outbreak of reddish swollen bumps on the skin surface. This happens because of the body’s response to involuntary histamine release by the skin’s blood vessels (which in turn, cause a leakage of blood plasma). The infection generally lasts for about 5-6 weeks, varying significantly in sizes and shapes. Although it is not a serious medical condition, hives can posit considerable discomfort to the affected person (coupled with severe itching and a constant burning sensation near the spot).

Although the exact reason behind the development of this condition is still unknown, researchers suggest that there are some factors that initiate the disorder.

  1. Hives can occur as a result of insect or parasite bites.
  2. In some cases, this disorder might occur as a side effect of painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs.
  3. Excessive intake of alcohol or foods rich in proteins such as eggs, fish, nuts, chocolate, berries etc. might also cause hives.
  4. Excessive exposure to the harmful UV rays of the sun or high levels of stress can also result in hives.
  5. Also, suffering from serious underlying medical conditions such as cancer, hepatitis or thyroid disorders might drastically aggravate chances of chronic hives as well.

Symptoms

  1. Development of numerous reddish welts around the face or the arms along with a severe itchy sensation, recurrent feeling of tightness around the chest and constant dizziness.
  2. Oral inflammation

If not treated immediately after diagnosis, this disorder might cause life- threatening allergic reactions such as Anaphylaxis (a condition which narrows down the bronchial tubes and causes significant breathing troubles) and auto-immune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis.

The homeopathic preparations useful for treating hives have been mentioned below:

  1. Apis mellifica: This medication works best for a case of hives that has resulted from insect or parasite bites. Other symptoms that are taken care of by this medication include severe itching and a stinging sensation that worsens at night or with exposure to cold, coupled with mild fever.
  2. Arsenicum album: This homeopathic preparation is effective to cure hives that include symptoms of a burning sensation, abnormal swelling, and constant restlessness.
  3. Ichthyolum and Astacus: This preparation is effective to cure chronic hives caused due to serious medical conditions such as uric acid, tuberculosis, or excessive alcohol consumption. People suffering from this particular type exhibit symptoms such as a large appetite, irritability, and a constant itchiness.

The following precautions may help prevent or soothe the recurring skin reactions of chronic hives: wear loose, light clothing. Avoid scratching or using harsh soaps. Cool the affected area with a shower, fan, cool cloth or soothing lotion. Keep a diary of when and where hives occur, what you were doing, what you were eating, and so on. This may help you and your doctor identify triggers. Avoid known triggers, such as certain foods or additives, alcohol, pain relievers, heat, cold, exertion, and stress.

Homeopathy Constitutional Remedies
Know how Homeopathy constitutional remedies can cure Chronic cases

Hi, I m Dr. Monty Talwar, practicing in Gurgaon, I have an experience of about 20 years in homeopathy, I practice classical homeopathy wherein we take into account the patient s nature and temperament especially in chronic cases. The constitutional cases are very deep-acting and they will stimulate the immune system of the patient. Thereby, the patient s body fights on its own, so we are not providing a continuous stimulus or a medicine from outside as the body takes charge of itself.

The example in thyroid cases, especially in hypothyroidism when we give the constitutional medicine it stimulates the thyroid gland so that it starts secreting the hormone on its own. As a result, the patient can be off the thyroid medicine. Similarly, in frequent colds and coughs in children where they fall sick too often, so these medicines build up the immunity of the child, so that they do not fall sick that often. Because of this individualistic approach, homeopathy is considered to be a holistic science.

If you have any queries or require a consultation with me you can consult me on Lybrate. Thank You.
