Home Remedies For Fever: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

A fever is a medical condition in which your body temperature is well above or below the regular temperature. In general, everyone experiences a fever at some point or the other. However, a fever of an extremely high temperature can be harmful, especially for children and newborn babies. The body uses fever to indicate a problem within your system. Fevers assist the body in fighting against infections, toxins, viruses and bacteria. A fever can result from an infection, virus, inflammation of the joints or muscles, heat exhaustion, tumors and many other conditions. If a fever persists for more than a two days, you should consult a medical professional for treatment.

There are quite a few ways to treat a fever and get your body temperature down to normal. Here are a few home remedies for fever:

  • Basil is a herb that contains anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties that help reduce the fever. To a make a basil solution, boil two cups of water with ginger and ten basil leaves. Keep it on the gas until the solution reduces to half the amount. Take it off the gas and pour it into a cup. Add a teaspoon of honey and drink it twice in a day.
  • Coriander tea: With its anti-biotic properties, coriander counters the effects of a viral fever. To make a coriander tea, boil two cups of water and add a teaspoon of coriander seeds to it. Add sugar to this solution and wait for it to cool down. Strain out the seeds and drink twice or thrice in a day.
  • Cool down with water and a washcloth: Since there is no real way to get rid of a fever; the best solution is to get the body temperature back to normal. In order to do this, get clean washcloths and soak them in cool water. Place this wet washcloth on the forehead or under the arms of the person affected by the fever. Keep checking his/her temperature with the thermometer. The fever should subside within a few hours.

Are there any side effects?

There are very few side effects of these home remedies for fever. However, if you are allergic to Basil, you might suffer from hives, rashes and itchiness. In rare cases, people get rashes, toothaches and stomach problems from consuming coriander seeds in excess. It is advisable to take care while using a cold washcloth that your clothes do not get damp, or else you might catch a cold as well.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

Here are a few post remedy guidelines that you should follow along with the treatment for a fever:

  • The best remedy for a fever is rest. The fever weakens your body and your immune system. So make sure you get plenty of rest to strengthen your body.
  • Drink lots of water and plenty of liquids. Hot soup and herbal tea will help with the weakness or clears away chest congestion. Even after the fever has subsided, it is important to eat healthy to prevent it from recurring.
  • Along with the remedies and medication, you can take a warm bath, or have a sponge bath. The steam helps to clear away congestion.
  • It is important to wear comfortable clothing. Keep the temperature of the room moderate, since a fever lasts longer in a hot and stuffy room.

How long does it take to recover?

A fever usually subsides within a few hours. It might come and go a few times, during a period of two to three days. With the help of these remedies and post-remedy guidelines, you can recover from a fever within a day or two. If a fever persists for more than two or three days, it is advisable to seek medical help.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

These home remedies are effective in getting your body temperature down and back to normal. Most of the time, a fever will resolve itself within a day or two. However, a fever can persist for over a week. A fever is a normal reaction of the body, as it fights against infections. Therefore, it will constantly recur and no treatment can permanently cure a fever.

Is there any training or experts required?

In order to use these home remedies you do not need any special training or expert medical training. These remedies are simple to use and the ingredients are readily available at stores.

Ear discharge is the phenomenon of fluids being expelled from the ear. This condition is also known as otorrhea. The kinds of fluids that can be discharged from the ear range from blood to pus and other forms of bodily secretions. It is caused by a number of factors, which determine the exact nature of the condition and the diagnosis for treatment. What are the causes of ear discharge? Some forms of ear discharge are natural, such as ear wax which is produced by the body as a form of defense against external particles that may enter the ears. Other forms are unnatural and result from anomalies in the health system. The causes of these include the following: Infections: This is the most common cause of ear discharge and occurs when bacteria and viruses infest the inside of the ear and lead to the secretion of fluids, which builds up in the middle ear or at the eardrum Swimmer s Ear: This condition is also known as otitis externa and is caused by staying in water for prolonged periods. It results from excessive exposure to moisture that makes the walls of the ear canal to break down allowing bacteria and fungi to enter and infect the ear. Trauma: Excess pressure on the eardrum can cause it to rupture and discharge fluids. This happens due to a number of reasons such as exposure to loud explosive sounds or pressure from flying in aircrafts and scuba diving. Skull Injury: Damage to the bones behind the ear as a result of injury can also lead to ear discharge due to infection. Acute Rhinosinusitis: Any sort of infection in Sinuses or nasal secretions may lead to infection in middle ear which may cause perforation in ear drum leading to ear discharge. What are the symptoms associated with ear discharge? Some of the symptoms of otorrhea are as follows: Abnormal and unusual secretion of fluids from the ear Swelling of the ear Partial or complete loss of hearing Pain and throbbing in the ear Accompanying signs such as fever and migraine Diagnosis and treatment of the problem depend on the exact cause and nature of the condition, which also determines treatment and recovery time.

Migraine - 8 Ayurvedic Remedies For Treating It!
Migraine is a very common form of a headache which strikes nearly 15 % of the population. Females are more prone to migraines. Science has not been able to find the real cause behind migraine attacks and the way it treats these massive headaches is also patchy at best. A migraine occurs for a definite period of time, usually, comes with a warning and paralysing pain. Ayurvedic view According to Ayurveda, migraine is a tri-dosha disorder. It occurs when vata or the wind element goes out of sync. Vata controls the nervous system and brain activity. Vata imbalances are linked to many diseases like joint problems, dizziness and it happens because of faulty metabolism, poor elimination, sleeplessness, etc. Pitta the fire element also has a role to play in migraines. It causes dilation of the blood vessels, which brings on a migraine attack. Ayurvedic physicians can identify which dosha is causing a migraine. If the patient is constipated, has acute pain and has dry skin, his Vata is out of whack. If a patient has nosebleeds, is hypersensitive to light, has burning eyes and is irritable, pitta is out of balance. And if a patient has fatigue, is depressed and has a dull throbbing in the head, he is suffering a Kapha imbalance. Ayurvedic therapies Shirolepa: Application of herbal pastes to pacify pitta like sandalwood, camphor, Jatamansi. Shiro Dhara: Medicated oils are poured on the scalp. Taila dhara: Oils like ksheerabala taila, chandanadi taila are poured on scalp for calming higher vata imbalances. Ksheera dhara: Here cow milk is poured on the scalp to pacify pitta. Takra dhara: Also known as buttermilk is poured when there is obstruction to passage of vata. Kavala graha: Oil pulling done with oils like chandanadi taila and mahanarayana taila. Shirovasti: Medicated oils are retained on the scalp by wearing a leather cap. Sneha nasya: Oils like Anu tailam are poured into nostrils. Apart from there therapies herbs like Kumari or Aloe vera, Amalaki or amala and Bala or Sida cardifolia are very useful as migraine cures. Several Ayurvedic medicines are also very useful in migraine-like- Pathyadi khada: It is used in the treatment of headaches, earaches, and migraine etc. Shirashooladi vajra rasa: It is used in the treatment of headache, migraine, tension headache, vascular headache etc. Bhoonimbadi khada: Used as a cure for fever, cold, sinusitis, headache. Kamadugha rasa: Used to cure all high pitta conditions. Godanti Bhasma: 250 mg of this medicine is also given twice a day for immediate relief from migraines. Patients should also eat warm, nutritive foods like sesame, sweet fruits, cumin, garlic, jaggery and rice for balancing Vata. For balancing pitta, they should stay away from smoking and drinking at the very least.

4 Tips To Prevent UTI During Pregnancy
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is usually caused by inflammation or bacteria in the urinary tract. Pregnant mothers are most susceptible to this infection, especially after the sixth week and before the twenty fourth week of pregnancy. This usually happens due to the alterations that take place in the urinary tract during pregnancy. Also, a growing uterus can block the urine drainage from this part of the body, leading to the accumulation of bacteria which causes infection. The symptoms are uncomfortable and even painful. These include pain and burning sensation, frequent urination, fever and chills. So how can you prevent UTI during pregnancy? we have a few tips for you! - Hydration: The best thing you can do to both prevent and treat a urinary tract infection is to start drinking at least six to eight glasses of water in a day. Another good way to prevent and treat UTIs is with the help of cranberry juice which has powerful antioxidants that flush toxins out of your system effectively. You will, however, need to ensure that the cranberry juice is fresh and natural, without any sweeteners. - Hygiene: Keeping yourself clean is one of the most important ways in which you can avoid UTI. It is best to clean from front to back, rather than the other way, so that you drive away bacteria and dirt. Also, make sure that you wash your private parts with warm water infused with a few drops of normal liquid antibacterial, so that you can be sure that the bacteria do not get a chance to thrive and affect your system. Also, remember to use soaps, washes and creams that have a mild formula, rather than a harsh chemical concoction. Hygiene for this area of the body includes keeping it dry. - Diet: Your diet should have plenty of fluids and lemons or other citrus food that are rich in vitamin c, as this is a good vitamin to keep bacteria at bay. Also, you should eliminate sweet and refined products to ensure that you do not contract UTI. Other foods to avoid include caffeine and alcohol. - Clothing: Wear airy and cotton based undergarments that are breathable and have a soft texture. This non abrasive type clothing can also help in keeping the area dry, so that bacteria does not get a chance to develop, as they typically need a damp environment for growth. Change your undergarments twice a day, if need be, and avoid wearing trousers and shorts that are too tight. These tips and many others including urinating as soon as the urge sets in, can help in fighting the risk of contracting UTI during pregnancy.

Most Hindu households, both rural and urban, worship this plant. The benefits of this herb have had the support of a huge mass of people who would not have settled for anything other than a scientific approval of their faith: the humor in this statement eludes most proving every bit of truth in it.
