Ways To Treat Acne Scars!

We all know that skin clinics are there to help us with our skin problems. Visiting a skin clinic helps you in getting rid of those unsightly blemishes and also improves the texture of the skin. Complete skin care starts from within but when home remedies and other medications are not helping, then it is better to seek a professional treatment.

Acne is a common problem that most people suffer from these days especially teenagers and young adults. Acne is caused by increased hormones and clogged pores or bacteria. Most people treat it by cleansing, using topical ointments or even oral contraceptives. But when your acne becomes severe, it leads to scars that are not good in appearance and can become dark with time. When you visit a skin clinic, the skin care practitioner will identify your scar type and take steps accordingly. There are many acne scar removal techniques present and not all treatment procedures may work for you, your skin care provider will choose the best procedure for you. Basic skin care starts at home where you can wash your face twice a day with a mild face wash. Keep in mind that whenever you step out of your home in day, sunscreen is a must. It will not only protect you from harsh UV rays but also protect you from aging fast. Glowing skin comes from healing your body from inside by eating nutritious and healthy food everyday that is full of proteins and vitamins.

If you are facing severe acne scar problems, then it is best for you to visit a professional skin clinic and get yourself a laser or a light treatment. Laser treatment for scar removal is considered the best these days as it requires half an hour or so and leaves no scar after the treatment. During the treatment, laser goes deep in the skin to remove the scar from inside and out which is quite effective. It has only temporary side effects which away after sometime but you will have a healthy skin anyway after it. We should also exfoliate our skin to remove the dirt settled in the pores and provide it a clean and refreshing look. Skin care is all about giving proper attention to our skin and we should keep it in mind that by using every treatment or every cream will not nourish our skin rather make it rashed and  pale. Thus, a little care with proper regime is enough to have a glowing skin.  Always ensure that you take out time to make out what kind of treatment and repair your face requires. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor.

How To Get Rid Of Acne Scars?

Have you experienced the ill effects of acne or have acne marks everywhere on your face? Acne or acne vulgaris is a condition where ugly scourges show up on the surface of your face. Acne causes scars, some of which might last for a lifetime. Acne scars ruin your face, and influence your appearance and self-esteem. You can adopt simple ways and strategies to get rid of acne marks. They are as follows:

  1. Cucumber: Cucumber is ideal for the elimination of acne scars. It is a hydrating substance and is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C and magnesium. These are vital for maintaining skin health. You need to cut cucumber slices and apply them on your skin surface affected with acne breakout.

  2. Aloe Vera: Aloe vera gel contains vitamins and helps in the fading and healing of acne imprints. Aloe vera is subtle having no side effects and does not bring about skin irritation. It works like an ideal moisturiser; it feeds the skin with vitamins and makes it gentler.

  3. Honey: Honey is an effective natural moisturiser which eliminates acne marks successfully. You have to use raw honey for this purpose instead of processed honey, which is more commonly available. By applying fresh honey on your acne affected skin, you have to massage it gently. Combining ground cinnamon with honey makes the mixture an ideal pore cleanser.

  4. Lemon: Lemon juice, which is an alpha hydroxy acid, helps in fading and healing acne scars. The skin gets revitalised as well. By mixing lemon juice in water, you should apply it on your affected skin. Abstain from direct sunlight during this treatment as your skin becomes oversensitive to the sunrays.

  5. Coconut Oil: This is another beneficial natural moisturiser with excellent healing capabilities. You simply need to massage your affected skin areas with coconut oil. Leave it on your skin and allow it to absorb in. The fatty acids and vitamins in coconut oil boost your skin’s health.

  6. Baking Soda: Baking soda is quite effective in getting rid of acne scars. It is rich in sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) crystals, which allow skin exfoliation when you use them in the form of a cleaning scrub. You have to prepare a paste by mixing baking soda with water and apply it to your acne affected skin areas. Baking soda also helps in pore cleansing and prevents blemishes.

Some other natural home remedies which are equally effective for getting rid of acne scars include rose hip seed oil, sugar scrub and potato juice. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist and ask a free question.

Post Acne Scars And Their Treatment!

Post Acne Scars And Their Treatment!

The skin is known as the largest organ in the human body. It covers us from top to toe and has three layers:

  1. Epidermis: The outermost layer
  2. Dermis: Lies just beneath the Epidermis
  3. Hypodermis: It holds the fat and connective tissue

Our skin requires constant care and protection because it is exposed to the ravages of pollution, dust and harmful UV rays. Let us consider the following reasons for taking care of the skin.

  1. Free Radicals: The particles or molecules that escape from dust, pollution and other such factors in everyday urban living, settle on the skin and clog the pores. It is important to clean the skin every single day and exfoliate at least once a week with a trip to the salon or with a facial scrub at home, so that these can be removed.
  2. Dead Cells: The skin throws up dead cells on a daily basis, which may not be obvious to the naked eye. These need to be cleared daily as they can also clog the pores and give rise to acne, skin infection and other skin conditions, that can take a turn for the worse with ailments like Melanoma and skin cancer.
  3. Elasticity: One must keep the skin clean and use anti aging products in a timely manner along with a good moisturiser and sunscreen, so that the supple quality and glow is kept intact with a regular cleanse of the collagen, which can be prevented from slipping away due to neglect. This collagen keeps the elasticity of the skin which makes the skin look firm and young.
  4. Prevention: One must clean the skin and use skin care products that prevent premature aging and accumulation of free radicals. Prevention is better than cure and this stands true in the case of skin care as well.
  5. UV Rays: The powerful UV rays can hit your skin persistently and cause long term damage and sun spots. In order to lessen the damaging effect, it is important to use protective skin care products that will help in keeping freckles, age spots, brown spots, skin peeling and excessive sunburn and tanning at bay.
  6. Skin Problems and Allergies: Bug bites, injuries and other allergies must be taken care of instantly with a visit to the doctor or medicated creams and medication. This will ensure that the delicate texture of the skin does not get marred by possible infection.

Post Acne Scars and their treatment

When you have a pimple, it is very tempting to burst it. While this may provide temporary relief, it can often leave scars behind. In many cases, these scars may be permanent and can mat your beauty. Thankfully, there are ways to treat acne scars. Treatment for acne scars depends largely on the type of scars.

Treatment for Indented Scars
Indented scars can be seen in the form of shallow pits on the skin. They are caused by the release of insufficient collagen during the healing phase. Microdermabrasion is the most popular form of treatment for such acne scars. This is a noninvasive technique that exfoliates the outer layer of skin and helps renew skin. In the case of shallow indented scars, this treatment may completely eliminate the scar while in the case of deeper scars; it can make them less visible. Deep indented scars may also be treated with lasers to reduce the size of the scar mad erase persistent marks. If neither of these techniques work, surgery may be advised. This involves removing the scarred area and inserting skin grafts in its place.

Treatment for Raised Scars
An excessive production of collagen during the healing phase can raise the scar. These may also be termed as keloid and hypertrophic scars. Injecting corticosteroids or silicon into the skin can help flatten the scar and level your skin. Cryotherapy may also be used to treat such scars. This therapy involves exposing the skin to extremely low temperatures so as to freeze the skin cells and make them peel off. In some instances, surgery may also be required.

Treatment for Discoloured Scars
Acne can often leave behind discolored patches of skin. In cases of excessive melanin production, the skin may appear darker than normal. On the other hand, if the melanin production is compromised, hypopigmentation may occur which makes the area look lighter than the surrounding skin. Pigmentation scars are easier to treat as compared to raised or indented scars. Topical ointments may be prescribed as the first form of treatment for these scars. Exfoliation can also be very helpful. Addition treatments could include microdermabrasion, laser treatment, and chemical peels.

When it comes to acne scars, prevention is the best remedy. Most scars are created by picking zits and trying to drain them yourself. This should be avoided. If a zit is painful, consult a dermatologist who can drain it for you. It is important to look after your skin with a proper routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising.  In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Acne Scars - 7 Things That Can Help!

Dead cells shed from your skin regularly along with the oil secreted by the sebaceous glands may end up blocking the pores, thus causing inflammation. This inflammation which results in multiple pimples and zits are known as acne. When the acne heals, it can do irreparable damage by leaving behind scar tissue which results in acne scars. These scars are unsightly and may cause social anxiety as well as cause issues with self-esteem.

Some of the ways to get rid of ace scars have been mentioned below.

  1. Coconut oil – This is another great remedy to help your skin recuperate from scars. Just take a spoonful of coconut oil and rub it gently on your scars. Give it at least 30 minutes to get absorbed within the skin. Then if there is excess oil left on your face, wash it off it a mild face wash.
  2. Baking soda – This is a very effective remedy for removing acne scars as it encourages shedding and thus the growth of new skin. Mix two to three teaspoons of baking soda and then mix them into a paste with an equal quantity of water. Apply this paste for two to three minutes before thoroughly washing your face. Ensure it doesn’t stay on your skin for more than 6 to 8 minutes as the chemicals in it may damage your skin.
  3. Egg whites – The proteins and amino acids within egg whites can actually encourage the development of new skin and effectively treat your acne scars. Whip up egg whites in a bowl and apply it with your fingers on the problem areas. Let it dry for some time and then wash off with lukewarm water. Doing this two to three times a week will bring effective results in a few weeks’ time.
  4. Fenugreek or methi – Methi seeds have been known to be an amazing remedy in treating acne scars since a long time. Methi seeds boiled in water and made into a paste or glue can be very effective in just a few weeks when applied to the affected areas.
  5. Aloe Vera – This is one of the wonder herbs in treating not only acne scars but many other skin conditions. Buy aloe leaves and snap one end of the leaf to expose some of the gel within it. Then apply the gel to the affected areas. Wait for 30 minutes or so and then wash your face with a mild face wash and water.
  6. Lemon Juice – This home remedy is effective in battling acne scars as well as fighting the growth of new acne. Simply use a few tablespoons of lemon juice and apply it on the scars with a cotton ball. Keep it for a few minutes before washing your face.
  7. Potato slices – Cut thin slices of potato and apply it to face by sticking them onto your skin. Keep them there for at least half an hour and then wash it off with warm water. Do this once daily for a few days till you start seeing noticeable results.

Acne Scars - How Dermatological Treatments Can Help?

Acne scars are caused when a pimple or cyst is popped and broken leaving a layer of damaged skin behind. These scars are caused by the excess oil, dead skin, and bacteria blocking the skin pores causing it to swell.

Acne scars can be categorized into three types:

  1. Ice Pick scars which are small but have deep pits.
  2. Boxcar scars have sharp edges, these can be shallow or deep
  3. Rolling scar have a wavy look as they are wide and shallow. This type of scarring is usually caused by damage to the skin.

Causes of acne scars
Acne and acne scars can be caused due to the following reasons:

  1. Hormonal imbalance during or after the onset of puberty
  2. Medicines that contains lithium, androgen or corticosteroids
  3. Oil and greasy food items and those rich in carbohydrates can trigger acne. In some cases, dairy products can worsen the condition.

Simple tips to prevent scarring
Some acne scars fade with time. In the early stages, the scars might look pink as blood vessels in the damaged area of the skin provide it with nourishment. With time the collagen in the skin would fill the injured or damaged portion of the skin. In some cases, it might take up to a year for scars to fade.

  1. Don’t pick or squeeze pimples or acne as they can get inflamed. This inflammation can cause the bacteria to go further into the skin which would result in deeper scars.
  2. Use mild cosmetic products as some products can increase the risk of acne and scarring. Non-toxic, paraben-free products free from synthetic dyes and colours should be used sparingly.
  3. Getting enough sleep is important and necessary for the body to produce collagen which is a protein necessary for skin elasticity. Sleep also helps the body and skin to repair itself.

Treatment of acne scars
Mild acne can be treated with simple home remedies such as the use of fenugreek extract and lemon juice. Face packs made from sandalwood and orange peel are also very effective in reducing acne scars. But in some extreme cases, you might need proper treatment at a hospital. Most of these treatments can be performed as an outpatient procedure. Some of them are:

  1. Skin resurfacing: where the damaged skin is removed to help new skin to grow. The damaged skin can be removed by the use of a laser, dermabrasion or a chemical peel.
  2. Fillers: In this procedure, the doctor would inject a filler such as a collagen or fat into the damaged area. This helps the skin to become smooth.
  3. Rolling: Rolling also known as needling, is a procedure where tiny needles are rolled over the skin to stimulate it to grow
  4. Surgery: In a few very extreme cases the scars would need to be cut away and the area repaired with the use of skin grafts obtained from another part of the body.

Any scars and especially acne scars can be unsightly. A skin doctor or dermatologist would help you choose the right treatment plan depending on the type of damage done to the skin.
