Glycolic Peel: Treatment, Procedure, Cost and Side Effects

Last Updated: Oct 31, 2019

What is Glycolic Peel?

Glycolic peel treatment is also know as Chemical Peel. The human skin is a very soft and sensitive tissue that needs to be cared for constantly. In case of a lack of proper treatment, the skin may undergo a series of changes that can make it look older and unattractive. There are several vital nutrients and vitamins that ensure the proper development of skin, but problems may still arise even if all of these needs are met.

Several cosmetic and skin care products available in the market can aid people in repairing skin damage. Some people may also want to remove the signs of ageing from their faces. Under such circumstances, It is best to undergo a chemical peel or Glycolic peel treatment.

A peel treatment involves applying a peel or a mask over your face. Once this has remained on the face for an hour or two, the item is peeled off. Most peels are available at pharmacists and other shops, which sell beauty products. However, some of the most effective peels, such as the Glycolic one, can only be found at the dermatologist’s office.

Glycolic peel uses the glycolic acid to remove the dirt and oil from the outer layers of the skin.

How is the treatment done?

The treatment involves visiting a plastic surgeon, dermatologist or any other skin expert. The expert will apply a light chemical peel on your face. After application, it is left to set on your face for a period of time. During this time, the peel must not be disturbed by any means. The time needed for the peel to work depends on the quality of the peel and the reason for the treatment.

After the required amount of time, the expert will peel off this mixture from your face. No time is needed for recovery with this procedure. Some people may feel irritation in the skin after the peel has been removed. In such a case, Tylenol or Motrin is used to treat this side effect.

Who is eligible for the treatment?

People who suffer from wrinkles and acne should seek out the glycolic peel treatment. It removes the oil and dirt from the outer layer of the skin, which in turn treats the acne. People with uneven skin coloring can also try out the glycolic acid peel.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

People who want a face lift and are trying to cure other issues with their facial skin do not qualify for the treatment. The same procedure is also not useful for people who are supposed to undergo cosmetic surgery of any kind.

Are there any side effects?

There are no side effects that show up after a glycolic peel treatment. However, some people may experience skin irritation after the peel is removed. This usually goes away on its own without the need for any treatment. Redness of the area is also noticed in some cases. This issue also disappears over time.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

No post treatment guidelines are followed after glycolic peel.

How long does it take to recover?
