1.I am healthy adult aged 74 years. I am worried of losing my muscles with advancing age as most of old people do. 2. Does protein maintain the muscle mass? If so: 1. Will taking high protein diet after the age 70 help in maintaining the muscle mass. 2. Does high protein diet have side effects and harmful to body after 70 age. 3. Is high protein diet enough to maintain muscle mass or protein supplements are required after 70 age. 4. If protein does not help to maintain muscle mass what else will help.

Moderate protein intake and mild to moderate physical training might help you in retaining muscle mass. Excess protein > 1 mg/ kg/ day is not desirable unless indicated for specific conditions. Other co morbidities like kidney disease etc may limit protein use.
