Thyroid is an endocrine gland situated on the adam's apple on the throat. This secretes hormones like t3 and t4 (thyroxine) which are essential for all the metabolic activities of the body. Some times it does no produce the hormone leading to hypothyroidism, when the person feels weak, weight increases, cold can not be tolerated, lethargy occurs and there may be many other complaints. The condition is moe common in females compared to males. It can occur at any age. Treatment is to take thyroxine tablets in prescribed dosage daily for life time.
