I had a random blood sugar test as a way of preventive measure and the result I got is 75 mg/dl which seems to be normal Should I have it checked in fasting as well. What's the difference between blood sugar test in fasting and random.

Mr. lybrate-user, Fasting blood glucose is testing after a gap 10 hours after food. Random is during any time of the day. 75 mg random is good enough, there is no need to check any further. Thanks.

dear friend fasting sugar is done after a period of prolonged fast of about 12 hours, while randon sugar is done during any time of the day, the diagnosis of diabetes is based of a fasting and a 2h post 75 gm glucose load BSL. random sugar indicates towards likely hood of sugar abnormality.
