Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking clarification. Well, apart from the reasons mentioned above, one may still get esophageal cancer owing to malnourishment, vitamins deficiency, infection with HPV, radiation therapy, high intake of chillies, hot drinks like tea, coffee etc all, celiac disease, obesity etc all. Early symptoms, which often go unnoticed, are vague discomfort during swallowing and heaviness or uneasiness underneath the sternum. However, as and how the disease progresses, the symptoms worsen including progressively difficult swallowing, weight loss, pain behind breast bone, excess mucous / cough, indigestion, heartburn, anaemia etc all. Hope this clarifies. Take care. Sincerely
