Hi lybrate-user very sorry to hear ure disturbed lately the gaps between the teeth could have been due to removal of the calculus dear. Usually if the amount of calculus was too much. The visibility of the gaps increases the moment it comes out. And yes very rarely these gaps gets closed by themselves. They need intervention. Ure dentist wasn't wrong in saying that the gaps will close on its own as at times that happens. But in any case since it has not closed now. Please visit a periodontist (gum specialist) for the ongoing problem of gums. You might also need an help of orthodontist (specialist for braces) to close the gaps or might need the help of a restorative dentist to close the gaps by filling the areas with an artificial material.

Usually more calculus (deposits) will affect your gums. So scaling ie the must to remove those calculus. After scaling, most patients will experience those gaps. Gaps are due the removal of the calculus which was previously filled by calculus. Gaps will close by itself once your gums heal. If not so, you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure.
