My friend is having swelling on her face and she has gone through the thyroid profile test and she is having increase in T4. So I wanna know whether she i'm having thyroid problem or not and other question I wanna ask in which thyroid womens do not get pregnant. please let me know.

Mr. Lybrate-user, knowing only t4 level it is not possible to diagnose any thyroid condition. It is important to know tsh levels, after that t4 and t3 can be looked at. So pleas look at tsh level, which should be between 0.3 to 6 milli units /ml, above this level is considered as sub clinical hypothyroidism and above 10 milli units is considered as overt hypothyroidism, needs to be treated. If a woman has high tsh level then pregnancy is not likely to occur. It is essential to maintain tsh levels below 2 mill units even before thinking about conception.
