Hi I have a 5 year old with adhd. He has severe focus problem especially while studying or even general talking. His speech is also equivalent to 3 year old. Doctor has prescribed attentrol 10 mg a day. But I read some where that it should not be given to a child below 6 year old.

Hello lybrate-user I can understand your concern for your kid i'll explain you the doses that we follow (>6 years and ?70 kg: 0.5 mg/kg po once daily; increased after ?3 days to target dosage of ~1.2 mg/kg po once daily or divided q12 hr; total daily dose not to exceed 1.4 mg/kg or 100 mg, whichever is less; no benefit observed with higher doses�) so rest be assured 10 mg dose for your child, it can be given. But, for severe symptoms, the clinician might judge that medicines are necessary to help the child acquire basic language and learning skills, so that he/she doesn't suffer as he grows. Also, therapy for speech and adhd is very, very important, so please also consult a speech and occupational therapist.
