Your experience of temporary anaesthesia or paraesthesia after an atraumatic surgical wisdom teeth removal will certainly subside in few weeks. 90% of lingual nerve injuries are temporary and get better within eight weeks. Any functional deficits like speech and mastication difficulties, tongue and cheek biting, taste dysfunction are the symptoms of permanent lingual nerve injury.

Hello lybrate-user at times due to injury to the lingual nerve during extraction of lower third molar the symptom of parasthesia or numbness occurs. It may occur for months due to the nerve damage. But after a period of time the symptom subsides as the nerve regeneration takes place. During this time care should be taken so as to prevent the tongue n lips from getting injured. Dearzaid, please take some vitamin supplements for a month. Most of the parasthesia get to normal in few days and some times it takes longer. You will start feeling normal slowly as the nerve heals depending on the damage caused by the wisdom tooth or infection in the area. Sometimes unavoidable damage occurs during surgery. Do not worry. It's necessary to take lot of liquids while you're on supplements. Sometimes it takes 6 months to recover. Do go for electrical stimulation of nerve in physiotherapy if you're skeptical.
