My son aged 9 years does not want to write anything although he understands all things but takes longer time. Sometimes he forgets what he had studied/learned even solved 3-4 days back. That's why we have decided to keep him in the same class next year also. Very often he keeps on biting his fingernails. We have tried to encourage him in all ways, scold him, even threaten him but he is not showing any improvement. Is he mentally weak ? What we should do to make him write ? Earlier we got his IQ checked which was above average.

You need to understand that just iq being above average is not enough. He might be having academic difficulties did to various reasons like specific learning difficulty, adhd or anxiety problems. We need to evaluate in detail.
