Benzodiazepine group of drugs (clonotril) privide great relief from anxiety and sleeplessness but they need to be tapered and stopped after a week or two. The biggest problem is the dependence or addiction potential of these drugs. If you continue for long, it becomes really difficult to taper or stop. Thats why these drugs are prescribed for a short duration till the main medication (ssri group medicine or others) starts showing its effect, which usually takes 2-4 weeks.

Using clonatril for more than 20 days may lead to dependence. So try to avoid using clonatril and other benzodiazepines. Instead start using some other anti anxiety drugs.

Dear lybrate-user, yes, clonotril is a good anxiolytic. But it acts only for 8-10 hours. Again you will need it, if you don't learn to manage your tensions. Don't use clonotril to postpone dealing with your tensions.
