I am a 20 year old female. I had an anal fissure since february which healed in june. Since then I have stopped using ointment but am still taking laxative (softovac powder). I have been on a healthy diet. In the last 2 months fissures have recurred 3-4 times (with mild pain) and healed within a week with use of ointment. Should I go for surgery? Is it safe to take laxative for such a long time?

No need for surgery as fissure can be conveniently managed by graded kshar karma treatment. This treatment involves application of special ayurvedic medicine in fissure region for its complete healing. Ayurvedic stool softening medicines are safe for long use also. First of all, you must understand that 2 things (constipation and straining) are the factors responsible for anal fissure. So you must control over these two factors to prevent recurrence. Secondly, it is important to treat early to each attack of fissure. It breaks the cycles of repeated attacks. Thirdly, you can undergo surgery if you are not getting relieved with medications. It is a safe surgery under safe hands. However, I believe that surgery is the last option available.
