Hello- Spina bifida is a congenital problem , present before birth, and it is caused by the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube. It is a neural tube defect. Research studies indicate that insufficient intake of folic acid and a common B vitamin in the mother's diet is a key factor in causing spina bifida and other neural tube defects. So better start supplementing these both to the mother and to your self before going for the next pregnancy. You should consume it at least 60 days prior to conception.
