I have been suffering from hyperthyroidism for the past 6 months now during which I also went through a period of hypothyroidism due to high dosage of carbimazole. Post that, I was started on 20 mg (in two equal doses) carbimazole for 4 weeks. After which my ft3 and ft4 are in the nirmal range but free tsh is still suppressed at 0.017. Should I continue the same dose, increase it or decrease it?

Hello, Thanks for the query. With 10 mg twice a day of Carbimazole, your TSH is still very low. Please tell me since how long this dosage is being taken? Because it takes over 6 to 8 weeks to show effect on TSH levels. Usually treatment is continued for 12 to 18 months. In some cases up to 24 months. If thyroid levels become normal and TSH comes up, then treatment is discontinued. In some cases hyperthyroidism does not come back. But if it comes back, then other alternatives are considered like Radio Active Iodine treatment or surgery. So presently continue with same dose for next few months. If you have any questions please do come back. Thanks.
