I am a 45 year old man living and working in swaziland. In 2007 I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and put on medication. I have taken haloperidol, serenace and now I am taking sulpiride. The problem is that these medications are very toxic and have a lot of serious side effects. I experienced weight gain, visual impairment, erectile dysfunction. And the doctors say I must use sulpiride permanently. However I read that prolonged use of sulpiride can shorten life. Is there an alternative treatment for paranoid schizophrenia?
