My mother has to go to urine 3 to 4 times in the night time. That is disturbing her sleep. We went to doctor and got all the tests done. Doctor prescribed tablets but that did not help her. Can you please mother with this issue? Thanks

Dear , She is suffering from nocturia which usually secondary and to some underlying cause. 1.Control of diabetes is first and foremost. Fasting sugar beloe 126 and postprandial sugar between 140 and 150 as diabetes can cause nocturia. 2.Get urine examination to prove or rule out urinary tract infection as diabetes as well as old age predispose her to UTI. 3.Ultrasonography of KUB with measurement of full bladder volume bladder wall thickness on full bladder and postvoid residual urine. 4. All these tests would give either the diagnosis or clue to her problem. 5.If all these tests are negative then cystourethroscopy to rule or prove other causes. Dr. Kiran Mehta.
