My uncle age is 72 years & he is a diabetic patients from last 15 years approx. 1 months back suddenly he felt breathing troubles & urinary infection. We admitted him in hospital. Now his creatinine 3.51 & urea - 114.9.doctor has told that in future may be he will need dialysis. Can you please suggest that without dialysis can not he live a normal life in future? We do not want dialysis. Please help .we are very tensed.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Diabetes invariably affects kidney function, more so when glucose levels are high. High creatinine and urea are an indication of damage to kidney function. This situation needs dialysis as kidneys are unable to handle the load. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to achieve a strict glucose control, and try and reduce creatinine level.
