I am an HSE professional working abroad. I am suffering from performance anxiety disorder for the past 1 year. I experience severe body shaking, increased heart beats, unstable legs etc. While giving some presentations or public speaking. Even if I know the content of the speech well I am anxious about weather I will experience the same symptoms while presenting which makes me unable to deliver the content or to ran away from facing the situation. I had taken medicines for 4 months as per doctors advise such as zosert 50 mg, lonazep and betacap. But I could not recover from the situation. Before 1 year I was giving presentations, speeches to the employees. But one day I had to give a speech to a large number of employees and that was the start of my failure. How can I get back my confidence and abilities so as to reach more heights in my career.

Hello Lybrate user The above mentioned symptoms are indicative of low confidence leading to fear of public speaking and anxiety disorder. Our negative assumptions about future might also create such feelings. Such a condition can be treated through psychotherapy i.e. Regular counselling sessions to build up the confidence and also manage symptoms of anxiety along with medecines. Try consulting a clinical psychologist for the same. Also try deep breathing exercises to relax your mind. You can also try practicing in front of the mirror before your presentation. For further guidance you can also reach out to me through the Lybrate app.
