Hello, Bipolar disorder is a chronic disease that warrants long-term treatment. It's a phasic illness in which phases of manic or depressive phase comes. The primary aim is to keep mood at a stable phase and for that mood stabilizer is required. Antidepressant has a propensity to switch from depressive to manic phase. Bipolar illness is treated by mood stabilizer or if there is a need to give antidepressant then its given under a cover of mood stabilizer. Consult your psychiatrist and discuss the treatment. Discuss about adding a mood stabilizer; or if already done then increasing dose to maximum tolerable dose or adding 1 more mood stabilize if required.
