My father, aged 68, was recently in complete bed rest for the last 2.5 months and was taking akt 4 TB medications. But now he started to move out of bed and walk or sit for a while. However, now he is starting to feel some pain around the low back sides and it increases upon prolonged movement or sitting. Is it due to muscular weakness or could be Tb related? Please note 2.5 months ago, he was having severe back pain and was hospitalized with Sepsis and later was told to have possible Pott's disease. After complete bed rest the pain subsided nearly completely. The pain that time was only around the spine though. What should we do? Although doctors did not tell us but looking at the MRI, it seems there is a mild bulge around l4-l5. My father is saying that he feels that he can feel two small balls shapes at lower back and it seems that the pain subside upon complete bed rest. Could some one please advise.

As you rightly suspected it could be lumber disc herniation .but at present atleast consult a physiotherapist or your consulting neurosurgeon for this pain. If there is no tingling and numbness in the lower limbs physiotherapist can visit your place and do some therapy. He should be better.

PAIN IN BACK IS VERY COMMON IN POTT'S SPINE CASE. HE SHOULD COMPLETE ATT MEDICATION FOR 1-1.5 YRS ATLEAST. BECAUSE OF TB ,BONE AND DISC GETS WEAK AND CAUSE PAIN. START WITH BASIC EXERCISE OF BACK, USE LUMBAR BELT AND STICK FOR WALK. IF POSSIBLE TAKE PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENT TO STRENGTHEN MUSCLES OF BACK AND HIP WHICH GETS WEAK BECAUSE OF TB AND PROLONG BED REST, REMEMBER BED REST IS NOT THE SOLUTION THIS WONT GIVE YOU PERMANENT RELIEF.
