Hi I am a student of class 12. As my father is a lawyer so from childhood he and the family wanted to make me a judicial officer and I always topped in my class so my father have a firm belief that I can fulfill his dream by becoming a judge. So when I passed my class 10 Board exams securing 10 CGPA, my father advised me to opt for Arts stream so that I could focus only on Law and to fulfill my father's dream to see me as a Judge I took Arts in class 11. But I never expressed my feelings to my father that I am fond of science and studying things related to space, planets, galaxies etc. I want to become an astronaut or a space scientist. And now I am in class 12 and I can't concentrate on my studies. Whole day I think about my dream and on this crucial stage of class 12 when I've my exam on March 2018 I can't change my stream also. Thinking that I wasted my precious time of 2 years and my father's money I feel totally depressed. Please help me! I wanna appear for IIT but I can't & also can't study Arts.

You should have expressed yourself at that time itself. Now you have completed two years and feel you should have told him. It is not too late still even if you have to lose two years. If you do not do what your aptitude is favoured to do, you will remain disappointed for the rest of yoru life and could suffer unnecessary distress.If you do not open up and tell people what you want they will not know. Unfortunately, many of us parents force children into schemes that we want and do not look at the aptitude. You could even do an aptitude test followed by career guidance to convince your father. Nothing is too late in life.

Dear lybrate-user, I understand that you are not happy with your current choice of subjects. A lot f timee in life for some reason or the other we don?t get what we desire. So my suggestion would be that whatever you have with you do your best in it. Learning never stops. You got to be good at learning. Then even if you do not get to be an engineer, you can still pursue yor dreams. There are many hobby groups who pursue astronomy. Your passion will always help you learn about science. If you look around, you d see that there are pol around, who may not be qualified in a particular field but their passion for that field helped them develop the skill required to excel in that area. So for now, concentrate on your exams. Do your best in these exams. Meanwhile also pursue your passion of science by learning things independently or joining some hobby groups. You ll find contentment and happiness from it as well.
