My sister is suffer from hypothyroid. TSH is 6.1.but T3. 4 are normal. Pls tell Me for it. Weigh gain is main point.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Weight will be there due to hypothyroidism - to keep weight under control take some measures - have more of fibre containing foods like fruits & vegetables, whole grains including whole wheat, brown rice, oats, corn, beans, lentils, pulses, sprouts, nuts - avoid fried, processed & junk foods - do regular exercise like walking 20-30 min daily - have 4-5 small meals rather than three large meals, chew your food well, do not skip meals, have meals on time, keep portion size all, include a protein food in all your meals - weigh yourself once a week on the same day - take medication on time as advised by your doctor.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. With TSH 6.1 mU/L, she has subclinical hypothyroidism. Usually no treatment is advocated in this situation. However, if person has weight gain and other troublesome symptoms of hypothyroidism, then treatment is necessary. Ideally TSH should be maintained < 3 mU/L for being totally symptoms free. Even the efforts to reduce weight will not succeed if TSH is high. Thanks.
