I am 52 year old woman and I never had diabetes. A few days ago I developed some skin rashes and hence consulted a doctor. The doctor ordered a blood test and it was found that my random blood sugar level was 380 mg/dl. He prescribed me metamorphine tablets and I had them for a week. Yesterday, after a week consumption of medicines, I got my blood sugar checked again and it was found to be 100 mg/dl. At present I have completely stopped eating rice and potato and also taking daily walks. Can I stop taking the medicines now?

lybrate-userji, Thanks for the query. Blood glucose value of 380 mg / 100 ml, means you had a very badly controlled diabetes. Since you are on medication, plus diet control and exercise, blood glucose is under control. The moment you stop medication, glucose will shoot up. Once diabetes is diagnosed, then it can not be controlled without drugs. There is no cure for it. You will have to continue the treatment. Thanks.
