An echogenic focus in a a fetus's heart is very common, even in normal babies. Usually it goes away on its own and has no other meaning. Women are more likely to see this in their fetuses. Its basically a small deposit of calcium in the babies heart that is usually reabsorbed by the third trimester. It can be a soft marker for down's syndrome, but if its the only marker, then this is very very unlikely. That is why the marker is called "soft" It does not mean a hard diagnosis and these markers are present in normal babies also and they go away when the fetus grows. Only if there are 3-4 soft markers the doctors will be concerned because they will feel its too many to be a coincidence, and recommend additional tests like amniocentesis. Even then, most babies turn out to be normal.
