Hello. Tooth pain and sensitivity occurs when the infection has reached the pulp or the third layer of the tooth. Every tooth has 3 layers. The first is the Enamel ,which we see in everyone's mouth. Decay in this layer can be restored by filling the tooth. There is no pain and sensitivity .if you don't get the tooth restored at this stage then decay reaches second layer that is Dentine. This is yellow in colour. Decay in this layer causes sensitivity. If not treated then decay reaches third layer I.e the Pulp. This is the living tissue of the tooth.in this stage the patient feels pain as well as sensitivity. Treatment for this is Root canal treatment where we clean the decay/ infection by approaching the third layer. An x-ray will be taken before the treatment. Medication will be carried out simultaneously. You should visit your nearest dentist for the same. Regards.
