Markdryl Syrup

Markdryl Syrup is antibacterial and antifungal. It is used either on its own or in combination to cure inflammatory diseases, endocarditis, dracunculiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis and amebiasis. It can only treat certain parasitic and bacterial infections of the vagina, respiratory tract, skin and joints. Markdryl Syrup is sold under the trade name of Flagyl and Flagyl ER.

Like all medicines there are certain associated side effects with the usage of Markdryl Syrup which are dizziness, headache, upset stomach, abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, reduced appetite, either diarrhea or constipation, blurred vision, clouded thoughts, fever, irritability, aggression, depression, difficulty speaking and breathing, skin rash or redness, a burning sensation, blisters, sore throat, darkening of the urine, rapid or irregular heartbeat and mouth ulcers to name a few. Should the side effects continue or worsen overtime, contact your health care provider right away.

Before starting Markdryl Syrup treatment you should consult with your doctor and tell him/her if you have any allergies, have liver, nerve disorders or blood cell disorders, stomach or intestinal infections such as Crohn’s disease, epilepsy or other kinds of seizures, if you’re pregnant or are planning to become pregnant. In case you are nursing a baby the use of Markdryl Syrup is not recommended as it may pass into breast milk and cause harm to the infant.

  This syrup is used in the amebiasis which is a parasitic infection that affects the intestine and amebic liver abscess caused by Entamoeba histolytica.

• Trichomoniasis

  It helps in treating trichomoniasis which is a sexually transmitted disease caused by Trichomonas vaginalis.

• Bacterial Vaginosis

  This syrup cures overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina caused by Lactobacillus species.

• Bacterial Infections

  This syrup helps in treating infections caused by bacteria in blood, lungs, genital areas caused by Bacteroides fragilis and Clostridium species.

• Surgical Prophylaxis

  It cures infections that may cause after surgery.

• Allergy

  Not recommended in patients with known allergy to Markdryl Syrup or other nitroimidazoles.

• How long is the duration of effect?

  The effect of this syrup lasts for an average duration of 24 hours.

• What is the onset of action?

  The peak effect of this syrup can be observed in 1 to 2 hours.

• Are there any pregnancy warnings?

  This medication is not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy to treat bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis. It can be used in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy only if clearly needed.

• Is it habit forming?

  No habit forming tendencies were reported.

• Are there any breast-feeding warnings?

  Breastfeeding women must consult doctor before using this syrup.

• Are there any missed dose instructions?

  Missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. It is recommended to skip your missed dose, if it is the time for your next scheduled dose.

Markdryl Syrup belongs to the class anthelmintics. It enters into the organism and forms the free radical. A concentration gradient is created in the organism due to alteration in the molecule and promotes the influx of the molecule. Thus, the free radical and the altered molecule will interfere with the DNA synthesis and stops the growth of the organism.

• Interaction with Alcohol

• Interaction with Medicine

  Warfarin

  Markdryl Syrup may increase the concentration of warfarin and increase the risk of bleeding. Inform the doctor if you have any bleeding disorder. Any symptoms of unusual bleeding, blood in stools, headache, and dizziness should be reported to the doctor. An alternate class of medicine should be considered based on the clinical condition.

  Ethinyl Estradiol

  The desired effect of contraceptive medication will not be achieved if these medicines are taken together. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement of the medicine should be made under the doctor's supervision.

  Atorvastatin

  These medicines may increase the risk of nerve damage if given together. Any symptoms of numbness, tingling or burning sensation in feet, hands should be informed to the doctor. An alternate medicine should be considered based on the clinical condition.

  Disulfiram

  Markdryl Syrup is not recommended in patients receiving disulfiram due to the risk of confusion and psychotic symptoms. Inform the doctor if you are receiving these medications. Any symptoms of change in behavior, irritation, and altered coordination should be reported to the doctor.
