Aquadol Spas 20 Mg/50 Gm Injection
A antispasmodic, Aquadol Spas 20 Mg/50 Gm Injection is used for the treatment of functional disturbances of GI motility such as irritable bowel syndrome. It reduces the symptoms of intestinal and stomach cramping. This medicine works by slowing down the natural movements of the gut and by relaxing the stomach and intestine muscles.
This medication must not be used in children younger than 6 months old and in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Before using this medication, inform your doctor if you have a history of :
- Glaucoma,
- Enlarged prostate,
- Urination problems,
- High blood pressure,
- Nervous system problems,
- Myasthenia gravis,
- Liver, heart, thyroid, intestinal or kidney problems.
This medicine can cause a range of anticholinergic side effects such as dizziness, weakness, dry eyes, blurred vision, dry mouth and abdominal bloating, and, at higher doses, serious effects like decreased sweating, flushed skin, irregular heartbeat, slurred speech, loss of coordination, mood changes, difficulty urinating and decreased sexual ability.
Aquadol Spas 20 Mg/50 Gm Injection must be used with caution in patients with hepatic or renal disease, ulcerative colitis, hyperthyroidism, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, tachycardia, GI obstruction, obstruction of the urinary tract. The elderly are at increased risk for anticholinergic effects, confusion and hallucinations.
The medication is to be taken by mouth, with or without food as instructed by your doctor, usually 4 times a day. The dosage is based on your age, medical condition, and your response to the medicine. Your doctor may direct you to start this medication at a low dose and gradually increase your dose to decrease the risk of side effects.
Symptoms of Aquadol Spas 20 Mg/50 Gm Injection overdose include CNS stimulation followed by depression, confusion, delusions, nonreactive pupils, tachycardia, hypertension.
Anticholinergic toxicity is caused by strong binding of the drug to cholinergic receptors. For anticholinergic overdose with severe life-threatening symptoms, physostigmine 1-2 mg (0.5 mg or 0.02 mg/kg for children) S.C. or I.V., slowly may be given to reverse these effects.
Take as directed before meals; do not increase dose and do not discontinue without consulting prescriber. Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressant medications (antihistamines, sleeping aids, antidepressants) unless approved by prescriber. Void before taking medication.

Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor. -

How long is the duration of effect?
The effect of this medicine will remain up to 4 hours. -

The effect of this medicine will be initiated within 1-2 hours after its administration.

Missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. It is recommended to skip your missed dose, if it is the time for your next scheduled dose. -

This medication is used to treat smooth muscle spasms in the gastrointestinal tract which occurs due to irritable bowel syndrome. It blocks the acetylcholine receptors present on the smooth muscles thereby causing the muscles to relax. It also controls excessive secretion from not only stomach but also from bronchial, tracheal and pharyngeal muscles.
Whenever you take more than one medicine, or mix it with certain foods or beverages, you"re at risk of a drug interaction.

- Decreased effect: Phenothiazines, anti-Parkinson's drugs, haloperidol, sustained release dosage forms; decreased effect with antacids.
- Increased toxicity: Anticholinergics, amantadine, narcotic analgesics, type I antiarrhythmics, antihistamines, phenothiazines, TCAs.
