The fixing of Dental braces/Metal braces is done to correct and improve the alignment of teeth. Most of these braces are made from stainless steel and in some cases from titanium. The dentist or the orthodontist can choose any type of braces depending on the treatment required in each case. The brackets are attached to the teeth through bonding glue and their tension adjusted as the teeth realign themselves. The arch wire and Ligature elastic bands are also used as components to hold and adjust the braces. Brackets are the easiest to be fitted and the doctor will be able to replace the elastic bands during each visit and keep a watch on the braces doing their work. These are also called the Traditional Braces as they have been in vogue for many years and have been successfully used. Though the duration for which the braces need to be worn can vary with individual cases, the average time period is around 2 to 3 years. Beyond this period or after the braces are removed, the doctor may recommend a retainer for a little longer. Wearing of braces over the teeth ensures that the teeth stay in their place and any corrections in their alignment required are achieved through the braces.
