Intra-lesional treatment is given for some dermatological conditions like psoriasis, keloids and alopecia. Intra-lesional infiltration of corticosteroids is also a treatment of localised cell histiocytosis of the mandible. It can be found in any part of the body as an isolation lesion or widespread. Bone can also be involved as part of the disease or separately and is also known as eosinophilic granuloma. Usually such localised causes are benign. Local injections of corticosteroids would be the initial treatment the doctor would suggest. Initially the patient would be given an intra lesional injection of 80, 40 and 80 mg methylredisolone succinate respectively and would be evaluated periodically. The overall outcome was good and patients were cured in about six months time. Intra lesional kenalog injections are also used for various disorders like arthritis, blood diseases, breathing problems, cancers, eye diseases collagen and skin diseases. The corticosteroid hormone in the injection works by decreasing the body's immune response to these diseases and reduces symptoms such as swelling. Similarly intra lesional treatment is also used for the treatment of keloid scars, which is an overgrowth of scar tissue that develops around a wound after the wound, has healed. The exact cause of keloid is not known, but it could be due to cells called fibroblasts that cause the production of scar tissue. Intra lesional injections are given to treat keloids. The injections are given every two to six weeks. Another method is to use steroid tapes, which are applied on the scar for 12 hours each day.
