Chin Augmentation is a procedure done to alter the structure of the face to enhance the facial features. This means chin reduction surgery or addition of material to a patient's chin, which in medical terms is known as mentoplasty and genioplasty. Chin alteration can also be done by the way of reducing the height of the chin or rounding it up. This procedure is known as the osteotomy. Another alteration is the chin implant. Chin Augmentation treatment is usually done along with rhinoplasty to bring up proportional facial features. Chin implant is done by using the patient's own bone from ribs or from a part of the pelvis. Augmentation can be done by manipulation of jaw bone rather than using prosthetic implants. This type of surgery is usually performed by maxillofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons, cosmetologists or otolaryngologists. There are two types of chin augmentation surgeries. One is surgical chin augmentation and the other one is non-surgical chin augmentation. Surgical chin augmentation mostly deals with usage of chin implants. The implants are placed in the pockets made by the incision inside the lower lip or the chin. Other types of surgical augmentation are the genioplasty and osteotomy which is for chin reduction or to decrease the height. Non-surgical chin augmentation uses injectable fillers which can be permanent such as silicone or temporary such as hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite. These are done to give a figure to a disfigured chin. Chin augmentation cost is generally expensive and people go for it for cosmetic reasons.
