Hello doctor, I am 32 married male. I had unprotected anal sex with my wife. We both are loyal to each other and never had sex with other partners and we both are infection free. I washed my penis after sex with water. I just wanted to know is there any chances of getting infected with STD. And is it safe to have unprotected anal sex.

Hello. The chances are less if, you both are infection free. It is safe provided you don't change your partner and you are well aware of STD status of your partner.

Hello- The rectum (inside anus) is lined with delicate tissues that are very absorptive. (Witness what happens when you apply things like caffeine or alcohol as an enema - not a good idea.) It's a high risk activity for transmission of STDs, but if your partner is free of transmissible diseases, that's not really an issue. Being a receptive partner for unbarriered vaginal sex is also going to be a risky activity if there are diseases to be transmitted. Going from unbarriered anal sex to unbarriered vaginal or oral sex carries risk of carrying bacteria from one area to another. (But this is also true of vaginal sex to oral sex. Thrush is no fun.) Again, condoms or washing in between makes things considerably safer. For the partner on the other end, contact with fecal matter can result in transmission of hepatitis.
