Yes. Prolonged catherization can cause serious urinary tract infections. Silicon catheters are good for long term catherization but urinary tract infection cannot be prevented.

Yes Cauterization can cause Urinary tract Infection. Definitely silicon catheters are meant for long term use but they do not reduce incident urinary tract infection.

Catheterization increases the chances of getting urinary infection. There are now silver impregnated and antibiotic coated cathers have come with with slightly lower rate of infection. You can have a word with urologist for long term catheterization.
