Zygomycosis is a rare but extremely serious infection that commonly affects individuals who have a weak immune system or are suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus. The fungus that is responsible for this infection belongs to the Mucorales species. This infection mostly affects the sinuses and lugs of the body. It enters the body either through inhalation or via a cut or gash on the skin. Zygomycosis infection may result in headaches, congestion of the sinus, fever, cough, pain in the chest, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain and gastrointestinal bleeding. Antifungal medication is generally prescribed to cure the infection.
