A disorder of the neural tube in the spine of infants, Spina bifida occurs when there is impaired development of the neural tube, which damages the nerves in the affected area. The size and the location determines the magnitude of the disorder. Orthopedic function, neuromuscular impairment and bowel control problems are symptoms of this disorder. Surgery is necessary in cases that are very severe, whereas mild cases don't require much treatment.
