ROP or Retinopathy of Prematurity is an optical disorder that affects the retina of newborn babies. It involves irregular development of retinal blood vessels and can even lead to permanent blindness in some cases. ROP is classified into five stages of development ranging from mild to severe. Birth weight and gestational age are important risk factors for the determination of ROP. Symptoms include presence of anemia, poor weight gain, breathing problems etc.

The most effective form of treatment is laser therapy or cryotherapy.
