Renal agenesis is the result of the absence of either one or both the kidneys at birth. In case of one missing kidney this condition is known as unilateral renal agenesis (URA) and when both the kidneys are missing it is known as bilateral renal agenesis (BRA). Renal agenesis is a result of the failure of the development of the ureteric bud (kidney bud) during the time of foetal growth. Infants with this condition have broad nose, wide eyes with heavy upper lid folds, receding chin and defects of the limbs. They may also show symptoms like high blood pressure, defects of the inner ear and swollen face and limbs.
