Oral cancer is one of the primary manifestations of cancer, especially in India where the consumption of cheap cigarettes, betle, tobacco, areca and betel nut is widespread and rampant. The cancer strikes the mouth in the form of long term ulcers and bleeding gums which can be painful and dangerous if not detected as cancer in the preliminary stages. They usually occur near, inside or above the mouth. Oral cancer may even lead to deformation of face if not treated properly.
HOW IS ORAL CANCER DIAGNOSED?
Cancerous growths develop on the palate, gums, floor of the mouth and on the tongue.
