Sometimes, during pregnancy there may be an alteration in the pattern of glucose utilization in the cells, resulting in the increase of sugar levels in the blood. This causes Gestational Diabetes (Diabetes during pregnancy). However, in most cases after the delivery, the blood sugar level goes back to normal and the baby is also perfectly healthy. There are no such symptoms observed in a pregnant lady suffering from this condition. It can be detected with the help of some tests, namely- Non challenge blood glucose test, Oral glucose tolerance test, screening glucose challenge test, Urinary glucose testing. Light physical exercises during pregnancy, modification in the diet help in treating this condition. Sometimes, antidiabetic drugs including insulin are required.
