Dental tartar also known as dental calculus is caused due to the hardening of dental plaque over a period of time. The bacterial mass within the plaque is killed by the minerals from saliva and gingival cervicular fluid (GCF) deposited on teeth. However, this supports further plaque formation resulting in the formation of dental tartar. It causes problems like Gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and tooth decay.
HOW IS DENTAL TARTAR DIAGNOSED?
Only dental professionals can remove tartar on teeth.
