Rhinoplasty: Treatment, Procedure, Cost and Side Effects

What is the treatment?

Rhinoplasty is a procedure wherein the shape of nose is corrected and reconstructed by the use of plastic surgery. People get it done to change the appearance of their nose or improve their breathing conditions. Rhinoplasty can change the bone, cartilage or the skin of the nose, as need be. It is a procedure with no fixed set of rules. The outcome and treatment may vary from person to person. It can be done to correct injuries, birth marks/defects and also treat several breathing problems.

How is the treatment done?

In most cases, the surgeon will readjust the bone and cartilage underneath your skin as per your personal requirements. It is done through a small incision at the base of your nose between the nostrils. The treatment proceeds according to the shape you want your nose to be. For small requirements, cartilage present deep inside your nose or ear can be used. In case of bigger requirements, the surgeon can use cartilage or bone from rib or other parts of the body. Rhinoplasty is done using local anaesthesia. This means that a pain numbing medication is injected in the area where the surgery is to take place.

Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)

People who are dissatisfied with the way their nose is shaped often go for rhinoplasty. It is also for the ones who want to get rid of birth marks or accident scars or injuries marks. Rhinoplasty is also a blessing for the people who are born with too narrow or too wide nostrils resulting in breathing issues.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

Children should not go through this surgery. It is only after 15-16 years of age does one become capable enough to go through this tough process physically as well as mentally.

Are there any side effects?

You may experience bleeding and swelling in your nose. It may be congested due to splints that are placed inside during the surgery. Drainage of mucus and old blood for a few days is very common after a nose job. There is nothing to be stressed about if you strictly follow the doctor’s instructions and do not do anything on your own.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

Immediately after the surgery you should lie with your head slightly raised higher than your chest. The internal dressing should not be fiddled with for a week. You should not do physical strenuous activities like running or gym until your doctor allows you to. Do not blow your nose. Eat high fibre food items so that it heals faster. You are also advised not to wear sunglasses or eye glasses for 4 weeks after the surgery. Avoid going out in the sun for a few weeks. If unavoidable, wear a generous coat of sunscreen on your nose.

How long does it take to recover?

You may have to follow the precautionary instructions for a few months. However, you may resume your routine duties in one to two weeks.

What is the price of the treatment in India?

The total cost of getting a nose job done in India may come out to be between ₹80000- ₹100000.

Are the results of the treatment permanent?

If rhinoplasty is done carefully and properly, it can last a lifetime. Hence, it is always recommended to consult a good surgeon with quite a few years of experience. The most amount of healing takes place in the initial 3-4 years of a nose job after which the result remains pretty much the same for the rest of the lifetime.

What are the alternatives to the treatment?

Minor corrections in your nose can be done by using injectable fillers like Radiesse and Hyaluronic Acid fillers. Some corrections can be made by just by a clever makeup trick of contouring your nose. Think well before going through this tedious process of nose job.

Scarless Nose Job - Things You Must Consider!

Rhinoplasty is a surgery which is performed to work on and reshape the structure and size of your nose. It is done for various reasons: correction and reconstruction of the nose, restoring functionality and aesthetic enhancement. With the help of this surgery, the size of the nose can be altered, the angle of the nose in relation to the lips can be changed, tip of the nose can be altered and bumps, indentations or other abnormalities can be corrected.

Rhinoplasty is of two types:
Open rhinoplasty: The surgeon makes the incision on the columella.
Closed rhinoplasty: The surgeon makes an incision inside the nose without touching the septum.

The Surgery

  • The procedure takes 1-2 hours; however, hospital stay may be mandatory, if the procedure is complex. Either general or local anesthesia is used to perform rhinoplasty.
  • The surgeon will either make an incision outside the nose or inside. The incisions are done to get access to the cartilage and bones supporting the nose. Depending on what the patient requires, cartilage and bone may be added or removed, or tissue could be added.
  • After the rearrangement and reshaping is done, and the incision is sutured, a splint is put over the nose to support it as it heals. The splint and the nose are carefully bandaged.
  • The surgeries are either conducted by plastic surgeons or otolaryngologists and maxillofacial surgeons.

  • You can go home the day the surgery is performed.
  • Your face and nose will swell up and hurt after the surgery and headaches will be common.
  • The nasal splint will be removed after 3-5 days. You should feel more comfortable after this.

However, full recovery takes a longer time. The healing process is gradual and slow and there might be some numbness and swelling in your nose for months to come.

Rhinoplasty - Decoding 5 Common Myths!

Rhinoplasty - Decoding 5 Common Myths!

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure (for cosmetic or reconstructive purposes) that is performed to reshape the nose as per one's requirement. Also known as a Nose Job, Rhinoplasty takes care of a host of nasal problems including an asymmetric nose or an enlarged nasal tip that can subject one to public embarrassment and mental agony, shattering their confidence into a million pieces. In spite of its effectiveness and high success rate, there are many misconceptions or myths related to Rhinoplasty that needs to be addressed.

In this article, we will bring forward some popular myths that have long been associated with Rhinoplasty so that people can understand the procedure better.

Myth: Rhinoplasty, being a surgical procedure, can be extremely painful leaving the face, especially around the eyes and the nose bruised that may take months to heal.
Fact: While some pain and bruising are inevitable (especially immediately after the surgery), severe bruising or excruciating pain is rare. In most cases, the pain or the associated discomfort do not last for more than a few hours following the Rhinoplasty. In extreme cases, a person may take a day to recover.

Myth: More than often, the incisions made in Rhinoplasty results in severe scarring of the nose.
Fact: A rhinoplasty may be an open or closed type. In Closed Rhinoplasty, the incision for the surgery is made inside the nostrils. Thus, chances of a visible scar are almost negligible. On the other hand, in the case of an Open Rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes the incision in such a way (across the columella, mostly in the shape of an inverted V) that the scar is negligibly visible.

Myth: Every individual, irrespective of their age can undergo Rhinoplasty
Fact: Not all individuals with a nasal problem can undergo Rhinoplasty, especially

  • Boys below 15 years and girls below 14 years (for rhinoplasty, the facial structures should be fully developed).
  • People under immense mental stress (such as depression, stress, anxiety, and related psychological problems).

Myth: Getting the surgery done by an experienced surgeon will ensure 100% success with no revision required.
Fact: There is no denying the fact that the choice of the surgeon is critical when it comes to Rhinoplasty. There are surgeons and health practitioners who undergo extensive training to perform Rhinoplasty. With an experienced surgeon, the chances of the surgery being a success will undoubtedly be strong, but having unrealistic expectations may not be a wise idea. There may be instances where an individual may require a revision (though not very often) following the surgery.

Myth: A person is always given a general anesthesia during Rhinoplasty.
Fact: The nature of the anesthesia depends on the type of the nose surgery. While a major nose surgery does require a general anesthesia, local anesthesia is often used for surgeries to correct the nose tip (or Rhinoplasty for minor nasal problems).

Rhinoplasty - 6 Benefits You Have To Know!

Reduction scarless nose job or Rhinoplasty refers to a surgical procedure conducted to reshape the structure of your nose. Other than that, it can also treat breathing troubles caused due to flawed nose anatomy. Rhinoplasty can reshape the facial region between the nose and upper lip, thus giving an overall proportion to your face.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

  1. Defects in your nose structure can lead to choking or breathing troubles which generally become chronic in nature. Rhinoplasty can successfully cure such health conditions.
  2. Rhinoplasty alters the shape, angle and size of your nose by giving symmetry to it with the overall facial structure.
  3. Reduction scarless nose job is a permanent solution for restructuring your nose.
  4. Since the surgery is conducted by making incisions (surgical cuts) inside the nose, scar marks are not visible after surgery.
  5. Rhinoplasty also shapes up enlarged nostrils or nasal tips.
  6. Asymmetrical Nose Bridge (uneven and disproportionate bridge of the nose) can also be reshaped with Rhinoplasty.

Risk factors and side effects associated with Rhinoplasty

  1. The region around your eyes may remain swollen for about a week or two after surgery.
  2. You may suffer from nose bleeding.
  3. Nose or the skin around your nose and eyes may get infected.
  4. Nasal blockage may occur resulting in breathing trouble.
  5. Rhinoplasty may give rise to the problem of skin necrosis or damage of skin tissue
  6. The nose septum or the skin separating the two nostrils may get damaged if the surgery is not performed by an expert plastic surgeon.

Regardless of the above mentioned risk factors, Rhinoplasty is a very safe and effective procedure for nose restructuring. But in some cases, the surgery needs to be performed twice if the patient is unsatisfied with the result of the first attempt. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Rhinoplasty - Know Which Type Is Suitable For You!

Rhinoplasty - Know Which Type Is Suitable For You!

A rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures undergone by men and women. Rhinoplasty involves reshaping the nose to improve its size, shape and contours to better suit the overall facial structure of the person. This is done by cutting and repositioning the bone, cartilage, skin and tissue within the nose.

Some of the common reasons people choose to undergo this surgery are to straighten a crooked nose or smoothen a bump on the nose, narrow or broaden the nose, restore symmetry to the nose after an accident or injury, correct breathing difficulties etc. Rhinoplasty can also correct birth defects and help a broken nose heal properly. This procedure is usually performed while the patient is under general anaesthesia. However, hospitalization is rarely required. There are two main types of rhinoplasty surgeries.

  1. Open Rhinoplasty: This involves making an incision between the two nostrils, under the tip of the nose and gives the surgeon more access to the nasal structure. This type of surgery is usually preferred for those seeking extensive restructuring.
  2. Closed Rhinoplasty: In this case, an incision is made inside the nostril through which the surgeon may make minor adjustments to the nasal structure. Though this gives the surgeon lesser access to the nose, it leaves behind no visible scars after the surgery.

If the nose is to be made larger or reshaped, cartilage may be taken from the ear to create an implant. In some cases, the bone may also be used to make an implant. Once the nose has been reshaped, splints and internal tubes will be placed to support the nose as it heals.

Recovering from a rhinoplasty surgery can take a few weeks, but it may take up to a year for the nose to heal completely. Immediately after the surgery, there may be slight bruising and inflammation under the eyes, but this is temporary and should resolve itself within a few weeks. You may be prescribed some medication to relieve the pain.

Regular activities can be resumed 3 weeks after the surgery but most patients are advised to abstain from strenuous work and exercise for a little longer. The results of a rhinoplasty surgery should become noticeable as soon as the swelling reduces. The results of this procedure are permanent and hence you should be very sure of what you want your nose to look like and find a good cosmetic surgeon before thinking of undergoing rhinoplasty.

Nose Job - Things You Must Consider!

Nose Job - Things You Must Consider!

The nose for sure must be one organ that most people are unhappy about. Almost everybody has a complaint about the way the nose looks sharp, rounded, blunt, too short, too long, the list can be quite long. Now everyone with these complaints has a reason to cheer and that reason is rhinoplasty. Corrections of the nasal shape or rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic procedures and is extremely common.
If you are unhappy with your nose, read on to know more and then decide if you want to go for it.

What is it?

It involves modifying the bones and the cartilage (in the upper and lower parts) of the nose to achieve desired and improved aesthetic results – narrowing it, heightening the bridge, refining the tip, removing bumps, etc. This correction is done either through an incision in the inside of the nose or the outside so that cartilage and bone can be manipulated to achieve the desired shape. Additional cartilage can be used either from the septum or the back of the ear or very rarely ribs to fill and make it longer.

There are some things to consider before going for a nose job

  1. Do it for the right reasons: Psychological disorders where people are obsessed with their appearance is not a reason for going under the knife. Then there will be another body part which is not perfect; it will just go on. A better-looking nose can definitely improve the appearance, but remember that perhaps that long pointed nose that you admire may not look good on your face.
  2. Set expectations: Talk to your surgeon about what will work best for you and have a detailed discussion. Else, you might have to go for a second surgery (what is known as secondary rhinoplasty, which is also quite common)! Remember that the result of the correction should be an improvement from what it was and not a perfect nose.
  3. Age: Skeletal development should be complete before going for a nose job. This means girls no younger than 17 to 18 and boys no younger than 18 should go for it. Although obsessing with looks starts quite young in life, wait for nature to run its complete course of growth before going for manual intervention.
  4. Cost: Done purely for cosmetic reasons, health insurance does not cover nose jobs, and prepare for the cost.
  5. Recovery: The first week after surgery, you would be using a nasal pack or a splint. There could also be facial swelling and discomfort and restrictions on going out in the sun, exercise, and contact sports. So, plan for it accordingly.

Have an open heart talk with your doctor about the entire procedure before going for it! If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon.

Hi dear, need not worry your PLT count is just low, that does not mean that you are not fit for surgery. Anyways to avoid any kinds of confusions you can get a repeat PLT count, PT/APPT, Bleeding Time and Clotting Time done. I hope I have cleared your doubt.

I'm looking for non surgical nose job, how much does it cost? And its durability? Is it available in nagpur? My age is 22.

Hello. The non surgical nose job is an easier procedure what you can get for the correction of nose deformity. It will last for 6-9 months after which you will have to repeat the procedure. Its indications are limited and does not cover all the conditions which a normal rhinoplasty treats. Cost varies from place to place.

I have a hump at the upper part of my nose. So my nose looks wider. What am I supposed to do get rid of it. I want a slim nose. I've heard about rhinoplasty, what is it. How much it will cost me.

MCh - Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon, Bangalore
Hello sir. Definitely rhinoplasty is one of the solution for the dorsal nasal hump. Its a simple procedure where such kind of anatomical or physiological abnormalities of the nose are corrected. The scar will be completely hidden and the shape of nose can be defined to more proper version. U can contact a plastic surgeon who is experienced in such surgeries or can even contact me for further guidance,

I want to know about Nom-surgical Rhinoplasty. How does it cost? Is it permanent? Can my wide nose be turned into slim? Please help.

M. Ch. (Plastic Surgery)

Hi lybrate-user, Non surgical Rhinoplasty is limited to just touching up nose by adding volume. So it is not useful in slimming nose. For slimming nose you can go for surgical rhinoplasty - is a day care surgery without any visible cut marks.

Sir I am 24 year old guy from Kashmir. I have some problem in my nose. Tip of my nose is banded towards right. Now I want to get rhinoplasty of my nose. Is this good or bad for me. please give me suggestion what will be better for me.

Rhinoplasty Surgery
Hi! Everybody

I am Dr. Gambhir. I am a cosmetic and plastic surgeon in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. I have my cosmetic clinic in karor bagh by the name of Personna.

Today I ll be talking on Rhinoplasty. Reason being I my self is a Rhinoplasty surgeon. Most of my practice involves Rhinoplasty. What I have seen in the past few years that most of the patients with breathing difficulty, they go to the ENT surgeon for Septal correction, but this is not going to solve all that problems. Just simple correction of the septum did not solve the breating problem. It requires the total of septal framework correction as a Rhinoplasty surgeon and as a plastic surgeon I have been trained to do a septal framework correction. Just the ENT surgeon, they do the septal part, but for the framework correction the involve the plastic surgeon. What I suggest that patient who have difficulty in breathing, who have debated as a septum, or who want a groped nose correction to be done should go to a person, to a doctor, who is qualified Rhinoplasty surgeon and who has been doing Rhinopasties. For those doctors, they are not going to solve just the breathing problem but give you an aesthetic correction simultaneously.

Thank you.

Good morning. I am Dr Vijay Kakkar, senior consultant plastic and cosmetic surgeon in kakkar health group. Today, we will be discussing about Rhinoplasty.

As we know Rhinoplasty is commonly known as Nose surgery. Most of the patients complain about de-shape of the nose, depressed nose or very broad nose. Some patients come with the sharp nose and some patients come with teh different photographs of different celebrities and ask to get the similar nose.

Let us see what all we can do in nose surgery.

If we see the nose, we see two parts.

1) Bony part

2) Lower soft part is the cartilage part which is internally supported by a separate septum

So, if we want to change the nose shape, we have to change all the structure like bone structure, soft tissue or cartilage structure and we have to re allign the septum in many cases.

Nose can be changed in two ways;

1) Internal approach 2) External approach

In Internal approach, we go through inside the nose so taht no cut or scar is visible from outside and change the shape of the bone, cartilage and septum. In this way we can achieve our desired nose shape. We can not completely chnage the shape of a nose. It completely depends on the facial profile. We analyze the length of the nose, chin, upper face. After analyzing we choose the best suited nose on the patient's face.

After the surgery, the patient is put into some kind of bandages or dressing for a week or 10 days and then we remove the bandages. The swelling on the nose after the surgery will remain for 8-10 days.

Once we do nose external approach, we give a small cut on teh central part of the nose which is called columella and lift the whole nose through this sand we can expose the whole nose. This kind of surgery is better done because we are doing all these surgeries under vision.

Again after the surgery, we put bandage for a week or 10 days time. Swelling of a nose may remian from 6 weeks to 6 months or may be in some cases upto 2 years.

This is the major part of the nose which we modify.

If you have any query or any concern about nose surgery, you can write to us on kakkar healthcare group, or contact us on 9811079483.

We will be very happy to address all your queries.

Thank you

Rhinoplasty: What You Need To Know?
I am Dr. Talwar, cosmetic surgeon from New Delhi. Today I will be speaking about the Rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is actually the beautification of the nose and this the after the age of puberty. People use to bring children of 10-11 years old age and ask if the nose can be corrected or not. But we feel that once the growth of the nose is complete which is around the puberty time 14-15 years then we can do the rhinoplasty or the beautification of the nose. Now in rhinoplasty, there are many techniques which immediate or many problems which can be solved. Suppose you have got a hump on the nose then that naturally can be corrected. We can shave it off and then fracture the nose from the side and make it narrower. Also the height is reduced. If your nose is flat then we can raise the height of the nose. It can be done you can take local tissues like cartilage from septum or year or the chest and with this the height of the nose can be raised. Then there is tip deformities. Tip deformity are like suppose the height is less or it is more round then we can correct that by trimming the lower cartilages. If the nose is broad then we can narrow it down by cutting the extra tissues. So there are different problems which can be rectified by different techniques. The question patient ask is whether there will be any skin mark or not? So there are two techniques- either we can make a cut from inside the nose and then go inside and correct the nose, the another is the open approach which is also getting more and more popular in which we just make a small cut in the base and lift up the whole skin like a bonnet of the car and correct whatever is to be done and then put down the skin back. So this is open approach.a Open and close both the approaches are being followed and scars are hardly visible. Second thing which they ask for is - whether it is to is under local or general anaesthesia. So most of the cases are done under local anaesthesia in which we do not make the patient unconscious but yes if the bone has to gets or the bone has to be cut or fractured and narrowed so in that case we generally prefer to give a general anaesthesia because the patient mind get some pain. After rhinoplasty usually the dressing nose is packed for The second days and packing of the nose is removed but the plaster or the tape are for 7-10 days time for total The results in certain cases are immediately, if you raise the nose it is immediate but if you do the tip work then the result will be apparent after 3 months onwards and the final shape might come after 9-12 months time. So you have to have patience when you go for a rhinoplasty and otherwise it's a the day job. Morning we do the surgery, if it is a local anaesthesia in the patient can go on the same day. If it is under general anaesthesia then the by evening also we can send them back. So practically no admission or maybe 8-12 hours admission is required maximum and the dressing is required for 7-10 days time. The results are very rewarding in this case. Male and female both are coming forward for this surgery because nose is one of the most prominent part of your face. Thank you very much!

Hello friends, I am Dr. Anubhav Gupta. I am a consultant of plastic and cosmetic surgeon. Today I am going to you about rhinoplasty or nose job.

Rhinoplasty is basically a surgery, wherein we change the size and shape of an individual s nose, to make it look better.

Now who are the people who come to us for rhinoplasty?

Basically, there are two groups of people who come to us, those are;

One is people who are generally not happy with the size or shape of their nose. They feel its broader, its thinner or it does not look good on their face.
And the second group of people includes who had some injury to their nose and it has deformed their nose.
The question which comes to patients mind is that who is a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

See, I am very selective when I choose my patients for rhinoplasty. Because, suppose a patient comes to me and says, that "Doctor, I want my nose to look like Katrina Kaif s", and they bring the photo of that person or some actor or actress .So, for such patients, I personally feel that they may or may not be happy even after we do the surgery. Because what they aspire for, or what they look for, is very impractical. So, suppose that is one sort of group.

The other group who comes to me , and say, " Doctor, I feel, that I have a broad nose and I feel that it should be thinner, and on my face I think it should be thinner". Then what we do is, we sit across these patients, we give them a mirror and we ask them to look at themselves and we as a third person have a look at that person, and then we decide, we discuss.

So in rhinoplasty, it is very important for the surgeon and the patient to have a common understanding of what is bad for that patient, what is looking bad and what needs to be done. Unless the patient and the surgeon are on the same page, I think it is not advisable to do a rhinoplasty, because the results what we give. Ultimately it is the patient who should feel good about it. It is not about what I do and what I feel is good, no. It is about how the patient feels, and that he feels good about it, and feels that "yes, now my nose is looking good". So this is about it.

Then what exactly do we do in rhinoplasty?

We do rhinoplasty by an open technique. That is, a very small cut is made here, and the nose is opened, and we do the dsurgery according to patients requirement. After the surgery, there is a packing which is done for two layers. There is a small pack which is made, and there is a splint which is applied in the nose, and it is kept there for 7 to 10 days. Usually there is a little bit of bruising and swelling. But after 1 week or 10 days, the packs and splint is removed and the patient start feeling at ease. There may be swelling for upto 1 month but it get back to normal within 6 months. So, the result of rhinoplasty keeps on changing, but in order to see good results, it usually takes minimum 1 month, because there is a lot of swelling on the tip. So we advise our patients to have some patience in order to se appreciable results.

Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)
Here are procedure and benefits of Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

I am Dr. Anil Arora I am practicing as an ENT consultant for a year. Today I will be talking about Rhinoplasty, that is the plastic surgery of the nose.

Desire to look good is universal and the form of the nose becomes a prominent past of the face, even a minor change in the look of the nose can make a huge difference in the facial appearance. Rhinoplasty is commonly known as a nose job and this is the most commonly desired plastic surgery in general by the public and it commonly done under a local anesthesia, can also be done under a general anesthesia. Normally incisions are placed inside the nose, so that no scare is visible on the nose and the common problems in the nose which people come for correction are a prominent or a big nose, small nose, saddled or fat nose or a deviated nose and generally the results are good. It is generally avoided that is to get it done under the age of 17 or 18 should not be done because the nose is growing and when the growth of the nose is completely done then the surgery can take place. Before the incision is done, one has to be fit before the surgery, some blood tests, some urine tests, and other things are required.

A counseling session is done before the surgery and a few photographs are required from different poses so as to compare it with the results later on and it is not a very difficult surgery. After the surgery is done the nose is packed and the packing is removed after 48 hours. After the surgery some swelling might be there that subsides within 3 to 4 days and because after the surgery there is some bleeding underneath the skin there may be some redness around the eyes, around the nose as well which subsides within 2 weeks, so has to be prepared the take leave from work for at least 2 weeks. After which the final results appear after 1-2 month or so because the rate of healing differs from patient to patient, it can take some time for the final result to appear. Generally the people are happy with results but of course, the result can differ from person to person so a preoperative counseling is a must.

In this discussion, I have mainly told you about the main features of Rhinoplasty surgery and if you have any further queries you can contact me through Lybrate or in my clinic in Sector 16, Faridabad. Thank you.
