What are Open Pores?

Open pores are the tiny openings all over our skin that help the skin to breathe and remain hydrated. They also help in eliminating toxins from our bodies. However, sometimes these pores may expand due to clogging and dilation. That is when they become a problem. There are more likely to occur in people with oily skin.

These open pores are mostly painless and harmless but can be very unpleasing to the eye, especially when they occur on the face. Open pores condition may be due to genetics, aging, excessive sweating, unhygienic habits, poor quality makeup or blackheads. There are a number of home remedies available to lessen your open pores. Your dermatologist may suggest salicylic acid and retinoids heal your open pores. What causes Open Pores on the face?

Our skin has thousands of pores that can’t be even visible through naked eyes. All the pores are naturally open and have hair follicles present in them. Age is the one factor that causes the enlargement of pores. As you grow old, skin starts to lose its elasticity making your pores larger in appearance. In fact, skin also becomes thick with the growing age causing minuscule skin cells which ultimately become the reason behind bigger pores.

How is the open pores treatment done?

If your skin is extremely oily, you may want to try face washes and toners that contain salicylic acid for open pores problem. This acid seeps inside the sebaceous ducts and removes the keratin plugs resulting in the reduction of your open pores. Retinoids must be consumed only at the recommendation of your doctor.

Oral and topical retinoids will reduce the oil secretions and the pores. Lasers treatment are known to efficiently reduce bigger pits and craters caused by acne scars. They induce collagen remodeling to diminish the open pores.

Along with following your dermatologist’s instructions, you must make sure that your skin is clean at all times. Use a good face wash and toner twice a day to clear off all the dirt from your open pores. Apply a good amount of sunscreen lotion with an SPF of at least 30, before stepping out in the sun. Use only good quality makeup, if you must. Avoid junk food and consume a nutritious diet including items rich in vitamin C helps in curing open pores.
