Home Remedies For Swollen Feet: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

Swollen feet usually occur when there is an accumulation of fluid in your tissues, which leads to swelling. There could be several reasons for this such as weight gain, old age, pregnancy, deficiency in important vitamins and minerals, lack of exercise or poor circulation of blood. You can treat swollen feet with the following home remedies:

  • Contrast hydrotherapy is extremely effective in treating swollen feet. You have to take two tubs of warm water and cold water respectively. Soak your feet in the tub containing warm water for 3-4 minutes. After that, change the tub immediately and soak your legs in cold water for a minute. Repeat this process for about 15-20 minutes. The warm water will improve your blood circulation and the cold water will reduce inflammation and swelling.
  • A foot massage will create pressure on the swollen area that will help the sore muscles to relax as well as improve blood circulation. Rub some olive or mustard oil on the swollen area and massage in an upward direction. Make sure you do this several times on a regular basis.
  • Ginger dilutes sodium, which is one of the main factors resulting in swelling. Its anti-inflammatory properties also help to reduce swelling. You can use ginger oil to massage your swollen feet or have ginger tea and slices on a daily basis.
  • Lemon water flushes out the excess toxins and fluid from the body, which eventually helps to reduce swelling. Apart from this, it keeps your body hydrated and also provides you with anti-inflammatory benefits. Mix a few drops of lemon juice and honey in a glass of warm water. Drink this mixture regularly few times in a day.
  • Physical exercise is extremely important as it helps in stimulating circulation and prevents blood from accumulating in the lower extremities of your body. Swimming, walking, jogging and yoga are some of the physical activities that you can do to treat a swollen foot.

Are there any side effects?

The possible side effects of the home remedies are:

  • Some people may experience skin irritation when ginger is applied on the skin. Some people may experience diarrhea, heartburn or stomach discomfort with continuous consumption of ginger. Also, women may experience extra bleeding during menstruation if they consume ginger on a daily basis. Diabetic patients must also be careful when consuming ginger.
  • The acidic content in lemon water can erode the enamel of your teeth if consumed in excessive amounts. It can also make your tooth sensitive to hot as well as cold foods. Apart from that, lemon juice is also said to trigger heartburn if you have too much of it.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

The post remedy guidelines would be:

  • Limit your intake of salt.
  • Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water on a regular basis.
  • Do not wear tight shoes.
  • Avoid foods that contain high amounts of sugar.
  • When you are lying down, you can elevate the feet with the help of a chair or a pillow.
  • Eat foods like asparagus, parsley, green beans, grapes, pineapple, beets, etc that help in releasing the build-up of fluid in the body tissues.

How long does it take to recover?

It may take about a week for the swelling to go away, following which you can resume your daily activities. In case you observe no changes and your swelling remains the same, you may have to consult a doctor. At times, it may result in other complications.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

With proper care and treatment, your swollen feet can be permanently cured. If you hurt your feet again or gain weight abruptly or develop a health condition, the condition can recur.

Is there any training or experts required?

The home remedies do not require any training or expertise, and you can do them easily. The ingredients are also readily available for your use. However, if you are practising yoga, it is better if you do it under the guidance of a professional expert, as you can hurt yourself if the poses are done incorrectly.

Natural Ways to Treat Swollen Legs, Ankles and Feet

You know that feeling after a long day when your feet are so sore or swollen that you can’t bear the thought of standing on them for any longer? once you take off your shoes and sit down, or even soak them in a warm bath, it’s still an unpleasant experience. Luckily, I’ve collected 10 natural remedies for such an occasion and I want to share them with you.

Important: regular swelling vs potential health risks
When experiencing swelling in the feet and legs, apply pressure to the area with a finger. If the dimple created by the finger remains for more than a couple of seconds, it may indicate oedema, which can be the result of heart, liver, or kidney problems. When this occurs, see a doctor at the first possible opportunity.
If you experience swelling in one leg but not the other, you should also see a doctor as this may be an indication of deep venous thrombosis (a blood clot blocking the blood vessels).
If the swelling is accompanied by shortness of breath, fever, bluish skin, and chest pains, get immediate medical attention.

10 natural remedies:

1. Soak your feet in epsom salts
Pour 250g of epsom salt into a hot bath, and take a nice long soak. You can also add essential oils to the mix for enhanced relaxation. Your feet will thank you, your body will thank you, and you’ll emerge from that bath a happier person.
2. Massage the area
Massaging the painful area increases blood flow and moves the fluids that accumulate and cause the swelling. If you want to indulge, get someone to massage your feet for you, preferably with hot essential oils.
3. Stop smoking
If you smoke tobacco (cigarettes, cigars, etc.), you should know that one of the many negative effects of nicotine is constriction of blood vessels, which can lead to sore feet.
4. Stay hydrated
When the caffeine and sodium we consume accumulate in the body, they can cause swelling and pain in the limbs. The best way to dilute them and flush them out is by drinking water. If you want to maximize the efficiency of hydration, squeeze a lemon or lime into the glass of water for a boost of vitamins and antioxidants.
5. Eat healthy, avoid excess salt
While we need salt for our body to function well, when we overdo it, it can have adverse effects. Reduce the amount of salt you consume every day, and consider cutting down on caffeine as well.
6. Elevate the legs
If you’re suffering from chronically sore legs/feet, try keep your legs elevated for 30 minutes, three times a day. You will notice a difference within a couple of days. Also, when you’re in bed, use a couple of pillows to prop up your feet. Elevating the legs helps to drain the excess fluids that causes the swelling and pain.
7. Avoid sitting for prolonged periods
Whether you’re flying, taking the bus, or just sitting in an office all day, keeping your legs stationary can lead to pain and swelling. If you know you’re going to sit for a long period of time, make sure to stand up, stretch, and walk around every 20 minutes or so.
8. Use compression socks when traveling
If you’re going to fly overseas, another excellent solution is to use compression socks. These socks apply pressure to your feet, preventing fluid from building up – the main cause of swelling and pain in the feet.
 9. Exercise
Exercise will help boost your cardiovascular system, which in turn will reduce the possibility of swelling in the limbs. Exercise increases blood-flow in the body and reduces weight.
10. Take magnesium supplements
Magnesium is essential for our body’s function. That said, many people suffer from a magnesium deficiency. By adding magnesium to your system, you will improve your overall health, reduce hangover symptoms and suffer less pain in your extremities

Swollen Feet During Pregnancy

There are many physical symptoms of pregnancy and having swollen feet during pregnancy can be worrying for some women. If you notice this symptom during pregnancy, it is critical to understand why it happens, and how to treat it.

Swollen feet during pregnancy

Swollen feet during pregnancy, caused by increased fluid levels in the body, is natural and common, particularly later in your term and during the third trimester. Swelling in different parts of the body is generally referred to as edema, and edema in the feet, while you are carrying a child, is completely natural. There are different reasons for this, but primarily swelling occurs because your body retains more water during pregnancy. Furthermore, the increased pressure in your pelvic region due to the presence of the baby can make the return of blood from your legs slower. This will result in an accumulation of blood in your feet and ankles, which will be countered with increased fluid levels, leading to swelling.

That being said, other factors can also increase your risk of having swollen feet during pregnancy, such as preeclampsia. Although swelling can occur at any time during pregnancy, you are far more likely to experience this type of swelling in the third trimester, as the baby has grown by this time. In terms of extra weight being carried around and the pressure on the pelvic region, the swelling will likely be more in the later stages of pregnancy.

Treatments for swollen feet during pregnancy

There are quite a few effective treatments for this type of edema, including stretching, wearing proper shoes, putting your feet up more, and performing foot exercises, among others.

1. Stretching

If you make stretching a part of your daily routine, you will be able to increase circulation to the extremities and prevent your ankles, heels, and calves from becoming stiff. This can greatly reduce the pain and discomfort, and drive better circulation, which will reduce swelling in the feet.

2. Shoe choice

Many people wear incorrect shoes, which can cause additional edema in the feet, as well as inflammation in the joints. It can even alter the way you walk, which can further cause discomfort or pain in the hips and knees. Comfortable shoes are a must during pregnancy, including the use of insoles, which can reduce inflammation that will make the swelling worse.

3. Elevation

If you regularly put your feet up, it will help to reduce the swelling, accumulation of blood, and fluid build-up in your feet.

4. Stay hydrated

Word of caution:One of the biggest reasons for edema and swelling in the feet is lack of water in the body. Dehydration will cause your blood vessels to narrow, which will make swelling even worse in the extremities. On the other hand, cut down on your salt intake to reduce water retention, as a lot of water can also cause swelling.

5. Foot exercises

To reduce cramping and stimulate better circulation, there are some great exercises for pregnant women suffering from swollen feet. Begin by flexing the foot up and down 20 times, followed by rotating the foot in a circle 8-10 times, then do the same thing in reverse. Repeat this with both feet in the morning and evening for best results.

Word of caution: while swelling is normal, if it becomes extreme or is accompanied by lightheadedness, blurred vision, headache or vomiting, you may be suffering from preeclampsia. This can be a serious condition and should be discussed with your doctor as soon as possible. Preeclampsia may require you to induce pre-term labor to ensure your and baby’s safety. Swelling in the ankles and feet is normal, but if the swelling appears in your hands or face, see a doctor immediately.

10 Effective Home Remedies For Veins!

10 Effective Home Remedies For Veins!

Some of the most effective home remedies for varicose veins include the use of olive oil, garlic, cayenne pepper, apple cider vinegar, witch hazel, parsley, horse chestnut, grapeseed oil, pine bark, marigold, and various lifestyle changes.

Varicose veins

Varicose veins are the unsightly and uncomfortable veins, most often occurring in the leg, that have become twisted or enlarged, preventing proper blood flow to extremities and forcing your cardiovascular system to work harder to achieve proper unidirectional blood flow. As people age, or if they have professions that make them stand for long periods of time, the veins can often become tangled in this way, preventing the normal leaflets of our veins from directing blood in one direction. When blood begins flowing in opposite directions, it can become extremely painful, whether one is standing or not. While varicose veins rarely result in life-threatening complications, it can still manifest in the form of leg swelling, edema, venous eczema, skin thickening, and visible vein knots in the legs or affected area. While this affliction most commonly affects the legs, as that is where the body must work hardest to overcome gravity and pump the blood back to the chest, it can also occur on other parts of the body.

Symptoms of varicose veins include aching legs, swollen ankles or knees, unexplained fatigue in the legs, slow healing time on small wounds or cuts on the legs, cramps, and skin discoloration or irritation on the calves or feet. If you believe that you are suffering from varicose veins, there are some in-hospital treatments that can alleviate some of the symptoms, but these are often temporary, expensive, and, as with all surgeries, carry a degree of risk. Instead, there are dozens of herbal remedies that have been developed, tested, and relied on for years to eliminate varicose veins, treat its symptoms, or keep them under control in a healthy, effective way. Let’s take a closer look at some of these treatments below.

10 effective home remedies for varicose veins

1. Horse chestnut: the extract from horse chestnut seeds is considered extremely effective against varicose veins, as horse chestnuts are astringent in nature and contain a powerful compound called aescin, which inhibits the destructive enzymes that damage capillary walls. Patients suffering from varicose veins can experience a reduction in swelling and pain when the extract is consumed. However, only the extract can be consumed, as raw horse chestnuts contain other compounds that are actually toxic.

2. Grapeseed oil: grapeseed is a very powerful type of natural oil that has long been used to relieve inflammation and muscle pain when applied in a topical manner. Grapeseedextract can also be consumed, but the unpleasant taste often makes people prefer the topical application of the oil. The proanthocyanids contained in the oil can strengthen the capillary walls and resist degradation, while also reducing inflammation and even promoting healthy blood flow to the extremities.

3. Marigold: marigold is rich in antioxidant compounds and vitamin c, both of which are essential for protecting the skin and maintaining the health and strength of veins and capillaries. You can eat marigold petalsdirectly, but that isn’t considered as effective as boiling the petals and then dipping a hot cloth in the boiled water, which should be infused with the beneficial compounds and chemicals. Apply that cloth to the affected area of your leg to experience reduced swelling, an elimination of pain, and and important collagen transfer that can help your body rebuild damaged capillaries and veins to prevent varicose veins from spreading.

4. Pine bark: the proanthocyanid compoundsfound in grapeseed are also present in the bark of pine trees, in addition to other unique compounds in the extracts that strengthen capillary walls, bind collagen to veins, promote elasticity of the veins, improves blood circulation, and even lowers blood pressure. Pine bark extract is widely available and can be used safely for long periods of time if the problem persists.

5. Parsley: this common herb is another popular home remedy for varicose veins, as its high level of vitamin c promotes the creation of collage and subsequent repair of damaged blood vessels. Rutin is the powerful organic compound in parsley that directly affects capillary strength, making it a key herb to add to your diet if you’re suffering from unsightly varicose veins.

6. Apple cider vinegar: as always, it seems like almost any condition can be improved somehow by this magical cure-all. In terms of varicose veins, consuming apple cider vinegar has been shown to detoxify the blood, while also promoting circulation and reduce inflammation. These three factors together make it an ideal tonic for varicose vein conditions. The easiest remedy is mixing two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drinking it two times a day. You can also get undiluted apple cider vinegar and combine it with your normal lotion and apply it to the affected areas. Both remedies are highly effective.

7. Cayenne pepper: the bioflavonoids and vitamin c found in cayenne pepper are able to promote healthy blood flow to the extremities and ease the pain of swollen or aching joints and leg muscles. The pain of varicose veins is often worse than the appearance, and consuming or topically applying a paste of cayenne pepper can definitely help alleviate those uncomfortable situations.

8. Olive oil: as with grapeseed oil, olive oil is able to significantly improve your health. You can rub olive oil on the affected area and allow the rich mixture of organic compounds so the inflammation and pain, and also stimulate repair on injured or degraded capillaries and blood vessels.

9. Garlic: as another apparent cure-all, garlic can break up toxins in the body and stimulate their release, in addition to reducing inflammation and increasing healthy circulation throughout the body. Adding garlic to your diet or regularly applying a garlic paste to the varicose veins can quickly reduce their appearance and discomfort.

10. Lifestyle changes: a number of lifestyle habits can exacerbate varicose veins, including standing for long periods of time, impact exercises or sports, being overweight, wearing high heels, sedentary lifestyle where you don’t walk or move your legs for periods of 30 minutes or longer, excessive alcohol intake, and smoking, which slows down circulation throughout your body. Eliminate or change some of these lifestyle factors and you will see a definite improvements in your varicose vein symptoms.

Home Remedies for Hemorrhoids (Piles)
Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, affect as many as 75 percent of people in the United States at some point in their lives. They most frequently strike when people are between ages 45 and 65.

This common problem occurs when veins in the anus and rectum become swollen and inflamed. A number of factors contribute to them, such as gravity, family history, constipation, a low-fiber diet, heavy lifting, obesity, food allergies, lack of physical activity, pregnancy, and prolonged sitting or standing.

Hemorrhoids are mainly of two types – internal or external. As the terms suggest, internal hemorrhoids develop inside the rectum and external hemorrhoids lie just below the skin around the anus.

Some common symptoms of hemorrhoids are blood clots or lumps around the anus, bleeding during bowel movements, irritation near the anal region, and the urge to have a bowel movement even when there is no stool.

If left unchecked and untreated for too long, hemorrhoids may also lead to complications like chronic blood loss, strangulated piles, tissue death and even anal or colorectal cancer. Fortunately, it is not difficult to treat hemorrhoids and alleviate symptoms with simple, natural ingredients.

Homeopathy Constitutional Remedies
Know how Homeopathy constitutional remedies can cure Chronic cases

Hi, I m Dr. Monty Talwar, practicing in Gurgaon, I have an experience of about 20 years in homeopathy, I practice classical homeopathy wherein we take into account the patient s nature and temperament especially in chronic cases. The constitutional cases are very deep-acting and they will stimulate the immune system of the patient. Thereby, the patient s body fights on its own, so we are not providing a continuous stimulus or a medicine from outside as the body takes charge of itself.

The example in thyroid cases, especially in hypothyroidism when we give the constitutional medicine it stimulates the thyroid gland so that it starts secreting the hormone on its own. As a result, the patient can be off the thyroid medicine. Similarly, in frequent colds and coughs in children where they fall sick too often, so these medicines build up the immunity of the child, so that they do not fall sick that often. Because of this individualistic approach, homeopathy is considered to be a holistic science.

Acidity - Causes & Remedies
Hello!

I am Dr. Malvika Pandey. Ayurveda doctor. Working in Bnchy Wellness Medispa.

Here I am to discuss something about a very common health problem that is acidity. In Ayurveda, this is understood as Amlipitam. This diseases is very common in today s generation because of the common issues which are propounding it lari vari shari kari. Acidity is due to more excess, excess of acid production in gastrointestinal tract overs. Normally the pH of stomach remains acidic. But in hyper acidic condition it gets escalated. For this it results in the conditions like heartburns, dyspepsia, belching and sometime bloating of stomach. Which can be easily seen and felt by the patient as symptoms and doctor can examine in the form of science.

The basic reasons for acidity is stressful conditions, we are living in, and insufficient sleeps, irregular way of taking meals. And also the suppression of our urges. These all conditions lead to aggravation of dosha, basically the pita dosha. And the stomach which is basically concern with the pita dosha is affected the most. And also the first part of intestine that is the duodenum which is very much involved in this. And the basic symptoms which occur in this diseases are belching. Heart burn, bloating heaviness of the stomach itching. Headache and even in the later stages it can seen as ulceration.

So how can we cure this disease? The thing which is very important in Ayurveda is prevention is better than cure. So better to prevent it. Better to get into the things which can check the excess of pita dosha which is known as the pit prokap ahar vehar. We should check it on. For this in Ayurveda we are getting two ways. It can be saan shodhan chikatsha, it can be sanshaman chikatsha. In sanshaman chikatsha which is basically concerned with suppression of the aggravated doshas. In this the pit shamak oshadi like, the yashti madhu, the shadang pani of course they are included in the diet of the patient. And vehara the things which areegated pita like kordha, kama. All the thing which increases the pita should be contained. And in the saan shodhan chikatsha, we do the eradication of dosha. In sanshaman, we suppress the dosha. In saan shodhan we eradicate the dosha out from the body by the usage of panchakarma chikatsha. Which is compressing of sneehan sheden waman geychannan basti.

For this pit dosha. It is basically concerned with the verachan chikatsha. In this the proper procedure of sneehan sheden. Then vaman is given to the patient. Vaman is, means incorporated. And later on lastly the verachan chikatsha is done. It is best for the pita shaman.
