Home Remedies For Hair: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

There are various issues that might plague our hair like hair loss, dandruff, lice or dry hair. Here are some easy home remedies to keep our hair healthy and strong:

  • For hair loss problems, natural oil treatment can be very beneficial. Take a bowl of olive oil or coconut oil and heat it up so that it is warm. Now gently massage your scalp with it. Leave it for an hour or two and then wash it off. This strengthens the root of your hair thus decreasing hair loss.
  • For grey hair, Amla can be very beneficial. Boil a few pieces of amla in coconut oil until it turns black. Now cool the paste, apply it on your hair and wash it off after 15 minutes or so. This will reduce the grey hair on your head. Amla also helps in getting rid of lice.
  • Dry hair is another common problem. A common remedy to this problem is baking soda. Prepare a paste of baking soda by mixing some water. Apply it on wet hair. After some time clean it thoroughly with shampoo. This should help keep your hair moist.
  • To get rid of dandruff, use lemon peels. Take a few pieces and boil them in 4-5 cups of water. Let it cool down and then wash your hair with it. This should reduce dandruff.

Are there any side effects?

  • Applying baking soda on your scalp increases its pH level. This might result in hair breakage or irritation. Hence it is better to do a patch test for any side effects before applying it on your hair.
  • Amla might cause scalp dryness.
  • Frequent use of lemon can cause scalp irritation and dryness.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

  • Keep your hair clean.
  • Wear a headgear while going out to protect your head against dust and other harmful particles.
  • Avoid hard brushing of your hair. Keep it gentle.
  • Have citrus foods regularly to increase Vitamin C levels in your body.
    • How long does it take to recover?

Some hair problems like lice or dandruff can be taken care of within a short period of time. However, problems such as hair loss and grey hair can take anything between 6 weeks to 16 weeks.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

Some conditions like lice problems can be permanently resolved provided you follow all the precautions and keep your hair clean. However, conditions such as grey hair or hair loss can only be reduced or delayed. Grey hair occurs naturally with old age, but with the help of these remedies you can reduce the chances of having grey hair at a young age.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): What Should You Know?
What is FUE Hair transplant? Follicular Unit Extraction is most widely used and the most reliable method of hair transplant being utilized for the permanent and scar-less restoration of hair. FUE is so effective surgical method that it is impossible to distinguish transplanted hair from natural hair. Results are natural and undetectable. How is FUE done? The procedure is performed in the OPD under Local Anaesthesia. Anaesthesia is given to prevent any discomfort to the patient during the procedure. FUE is the method of extraction donor hair directly from donor site in a follicular unit hair transplant procedure. An instrument is used to make small circular incisions in the skin around a follicular unit while separating it from the surrounding tissue. The follicular unit is directly extracted from the scalp leaving a small open hole. This process continues until the surgeon accumulates large number of follicular units for the planned hair restoration. For single session, this procedure can take two to three hours whereas for long session, it may be accomplished over two consecutive days. The donor scars are approximately 1mm in size which completely heals within ten days. Before the grafts are harvested, tiny 'recipient sites'; are made in the balding area of the scalp using a fine needle-point instrument. The follicular units are then placed into the recipient sites where they will grow into healthy hair-producing follicles. The creation of recipient sites and the placing of follicular unit grafts are essentially the same in both FUE and FUT procedures. The difference lies in the appearance of the donor area and in the quality and quantity of grafts obtained with each technique. How is the healing phase after an FUE? The donor wounds, approximately 1-mm in size, completely heal over the course of seven to ten days, leaving tiny white scars buried in the hair in the back and sides of the scalp. When does the hair begin growing? The transplanted hair generally shed within 2 to 6 weeks after the surgery as roots enter in resting phase. Within three to eight months, transplanted roots start sprouting hair. It takes ten to twelve months to have denser hair as hair continue to mature and thicken gradually. Once transplanted hair begin to grow, it will continue to do so for lifetime. What is biostimulated FUE? It comprises of hair transplantation by FUE along with 3 sessions of Platelet rich plasma therapy which simultaneously enhance residual hairs as well as transplanted hairs by presence of high concentration of growth factors directly near the hair roots and stimulation of STEM CELLS. In this hair follicles to be transplanted are preserved in a special solution enriched with patient's own growth factors and at the end of surgery this concentrated solution of growth factors is injected into the whole affected area. With biostimulation, a good proportion of transplanted hairs remain in growth phase (ANAGEN) and directly start growing after transplantation.

Can PRP Therapy Helps Manage Hair Loss?
6 Causes of hair loss you didn?t know about and how you can combat this problem In order to have healthy volume of hair on your head, the rate of hair loss and replacement should be in tandem. With age, your hair growth cycle shows signs of slowing down and factors like age, disease, and hormonal changes among others affect the pace at which an individual hair follicle moves through the 3 phases of the hair cycle. A disruption in your hair cycle can give rise to loss of hair that?s rapid and unexpected. Hair loss or alopecia can affect both men and women. So what can cause your hair to fall at an alarming rate? The reasons behind hair loss could be many, but here are 6 major ones: 1. Lack of protein in your diet When you exclude protein from your diet, your body starts to conserve the protein that it has by altering the growth cycle of your hair. In such cases, your hair enters into the resting stage, resulting in zero hair growth. In India, 9 out of 10 people are said to suffer from low amounts of protein in their diet, with 91% vegetarians reporting protein deficiency. 2. Iron deficiency Iron plays a very important role in the transportation of oxygen to the different organs of the body. Lack of iron in your diet (which is the principle reason behind anaemia) can give rise to several health problems including hair loss. Your body attempts to direct oxygen to important organs so as to support their functioning. As a result, your scalp witnesses a low supply of oxygen, which causes hair loss. 3. Vitamin D-3 deficiency Deficiency of vitamin D-3 gives rise to a type of hair loss called Telogen Effluvium (TE). This is a temporary hair thinning phenomenon that takes place when the all the hair on your scalp enter the resting phase at the same time, subsequently causing you to shed a large amount of hair later on. 4. Smoking Smoking can also affect the health of your hair, especially the rate at which it falls and the number of strands lost in a day. A research carried out by the Harvard School of Public Health has revealed that smoking can cause a rise in a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). An increase in DHT level prevents new hair cells from growing and causes hair follicles to reduce in size with each hair cycle. As a result, the area on your scalp that gets affected by DHT experiences a lack of hair growth. 5. Use of testosterone supplements in gym Intake of testosterone in the form of supplements and injections to build muscle mass can trigger hair loss in men. This takes place when the testosterone in these supplements gets changed into DHT, thereby affecting your hair loss rate and amount. 6. Past illnesses (dengue, TB and typhoid) Falling of hair can also be brought on by illnesses such as typhoid, TB and dengue as the hair growth cycle comes to a stop. Hormonal or metabolic stress that is experienced during the course of such diseases may cause hairfall. What are the treatments available to cure hair loss? 1. Hair transplant Hair transplant is a minimally invasive surgical technique that transfers hair follicles taken from other parts of your body to the balding area. Known by the name of Follicular Unit Transplantation, this hair loss treatment can help to bring back the natural appearance of a fuller head of hair. Hair follicles are harvested using two procedures- follicular unit extraction and strip harvesting. Procedure can vary from 4-8 hours or more depending on the case. 2. Platelet- Rich Plasma (PRP) Platelet- Rich Plasma (PRP) is another treatment alternative that can reverse hair loss. It?s a simple non-surgical procedure that lasts about 60-90 minutes. In this form of hair treatment, the patient?s own blood cells, more specifically blood platelets are injected into the scalp. Usually 8 sittings are required with each sitting being 2 weeks apart for better results. 3. Low Level Laser (Light) Therapy (LLLT) This form of hair therapy utilises light energy of a specific wavelength and threshold to stimulate cellular activity, thereby promoting hair growth. Various controlled clinical tests have revealed its effectiveness in encouraging hair growth in both the genders.

Benefits Of Hair Transplant Surgery!
A receding hairline and premature hair loss is a major cause of concern for most people. The affected person suffers a major loss to his appearance, self-esteem and confidence level. With one of the biggest causes for hair loss being the increased stress levels across all genders and age groups, premature hair loss is seen more and more in younger ages, as early as the late 20s. That being the case, hair transplant, which comes as a rescue to the affected people is gaining significant popularity. There are two main techniques of hair transplantation and both involve replacing the lost hair follicles from one part of the body to another part. While the scalp is the most commonly used donor site, the chest and back also can be used as donor sites if there is adequate hair growth. In the recent years, advanced techniques are in place that yield more natural results, are less invasive, and enable a quicker recovery. Read on to know some of the common benefits of hair transplantation. Natural process: When compared to the wigs that were used earlier to mask the bald pate, the hair transplant is a more natural way to replace lost hair. It is healthier, has no chemicals, and does not have any harmful or allergic reactions. Improved esthetics: The person s own hair is transplanted and so the new hair growth that covers the bald pate resembles the rest of the hair, producing quite a natural appearance. Of course, there is the initial stage where the donor site requires some healing before the transplanted follicles are completely absorbed and begin to yield results. Also, this is far better than the wigs that give away the fact that the person has had hair loss and is using artificial hair. Relatively permanent solution: Hair transplant is more or less a permanent solution to hair loss and receding hair loss. There are very few people who have had transplants and have again experienced baldness. Though the newly growing hair might be thinner, it is not that obvious for the others as it is for you. It is more often than not a permanent solution to the bald spots that you once experienced. Psychological effects: Restoring lost hair improves confidence and self-esteem and improves self-worth too. The personality of a person changes drastically, and anybody who has gone through hair loss and had successful transplant surgery can vouch for it. Low maintenance: There is actually no ongoing maintenance that is required after the hair transplant. Routine hair care suffices, making it easy for the person without multiple follow-up visits. Go ahead with hair transplant, if you have a receding hairline. You will see the benefits for yourself.

Hair Transplant FUE Technique - Know Everything About It!
Hair transplant is a surgical procedure that is used to move hair follicles from one location in the body to another. The part from which the hair follicles are taken is known as the donor site and the location where it is moved to is called the recipient site . Patients who undergo hair transplants often come across the terms FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). Follicular Unit Extraction is a procedure which involves the singular extraction of each hair follicle without any removal of strip of tissue. Random removal of hair follicle takes place which causes minimal and unnoticeable changes in the donor area. Fewer amounts of hair are transplanted as the follicles are removed one at a time which makes it beneficial for the removal of lesser hair as compared to the traditional FUT procedure. The Procedure In FUE, singular removal of hair follicles is done using specialized equipment that generally consists of a needle which has a diameter less than one mm. The needle is targeted at the base of the hair follicles. At this spot, a circular incision is made. Another instrument, similar to tweezers, is used to dislodge the hair follicle from the scalp. Post- Surgery Management: Stretches are not needed in Follicular Unit Extraction. Additionally, there is almost no post procedural discomfort. Since the occurrence of any scar is absent, healing time is generally less. However, puncture marks which have a diameter of 1 mm or less are common. These marks heal by themselves within 3 to 7 days. It takes three to six months for the hair to look natural once again. The initial scars heal quickly and daily activities can be resumed the very next day. Advantages: Perspective of the surgeon: Lesser manpower, when compared to FUT, is needed i.e. a single doctor with a maximum of two assistants can run a clinic. Lesser equipment is needed. Graft preparation is minimal. Perspective of the Patient: Can sport short hair. Less post-operative recovery time. Microscopic scars in the donor site are nearly invisible. Body hair can be used for added density only in this technique. Can be used to cover pre-existing scar of surgery. 5 Ayurvedic Remedies For Baldness!
Alopecia areata is stated as a baldness disorder where there is hair loss due to a mistaken attack of the immune system on the hair follicles (the region where hair growth starts). The damage which the hair follicles face is not permanent. However, the reason why the immune system attacks the hair follicles is still unknown. Although this problem is commonly seen in people below the age of 20, it may also be found in adults and children belonging to any age group. Men and women equally fall victim to this disorder. Causes of Alopecia Areata- It's yet not perfectly understood what causes alopecia areata. For some reason, follicles stop producing visible hair, resulting in smooth bald patches that can appear overnight. Researchers are trying to determine what triggers the disease, and whether it's from within the body or from environmental factors. There are no diagnostic tests available which can predict the onset and behavior of alopecia areata. However, there may be some hereditary factors which play a role in hair loss, in about 20% of cases people with alopecia areata have a family member who are also affected. Below area few common factors which are known as a trigger for Alopecia areata. Genetic tendencies Environmental triggers Medicines Long illness Exposure to chemicals Nutritional deficiency Thyroid dysfunction Extreme Stress Vaccines Local skin disease Pregnancy Ayurveda Management- Increased hair fall in ayurveda is termed as khalitya and is classified under shiroroga. Romakupagata / keshamulagata vitiated pitta (bhrajaka pitta) along with vitiated vata leads to dis-lodgement or withering of the hair from the hair roots. Further to this, vitiated sleshma / kapha along with rakta will cover and causes obstruction to the hair root, which results in no further hair growth from that place. A few ways of treatment to reduce hair fall and stimulate hair growth: Pitta Pacification: This type of treatment is stated as an effective ayurvedic treatment to enhance the digestive system including pitta pacification dietary chart and pitta decreasing ayurvedic medication. This therapy removes toxins from the biological system through effective herbs. Ayurvedic Oil Application: Jasminum grandifolium induced medicated herbal hair oil is highly effective for treating baldness. Panchakarma Therapy: Panchakarma is defined as five (pancha) remedies (karma) which involve ayurvedic measures to cleanse the body. This therapy is generally seen as a supplement to the whole therapy needed for treating alopecia. Specific suggestions of Panchakarma therapy are shirodhara (head massage with medicated oil) and Ksheera vasthi, which includes medicated enema (injecting liquid or gas into the rectum, to take out the harmful contents like toxins). Nasya: This therapy is characterized by the ayurvedic intake of medication through your nasal cavity which then eliminates the impurities from there. It is a very effective therapy for treating the signs of alopecia. Ayurvedic Diet: Ayurvedic diet is considered an essential treatment method for alopecia. Certain food products must be included or increased in the diet. These include: Food with astringent properties (making skin less oily and reducing bleeding from minor abrasions), sweet and bitter. Lentils, leafy green vegetables and pulses. Herbal tea like liquorice tea and peppermint tea. Seeds and nuts like soaked almond, sesame seed and sunflower seed. Egg white, turkey, chicken, and fish.

Am 17 years, I have a problem of thinning of hair and hair fall from a long time, I am doing excess masturbation from almost 5 years and 3-4 times a day. Is this the cause? If so what should I do to get my natural and healthy hairs back? But my father has also lost some of his hair. So can it be hereditary? Which test should I do to know the exact reason of my hairloss?

Masturbation has no relation to hairloss. You may be suffering from androgenic alopecia which is also called as pattern baldness. The hairs start reducing in density at the crown (top) and also the hairline starts refeeding from the front. This is usually progressive throughout life unless treated. This may also be accompanied by severe dandruff. The FDA approved treatment for this condition is a lotion and tablets. There is no other alternative. No oil or cream will magically work because the hairs are getting miniaturised and eventually disappearing due to the hormonal effects on the hair roots. Along with this, you can also consider platelet rich plasma therapy for faster results. Please call me or contact me with photos using online consult option for proper examination and treatment. Do not start treatment without consulting. I can give guidance and then you can continue treatment on your own.
