Home Remedies For Cystic Acne: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

Last Updated: Mar 12, 2021

What are the best home remedies for cystic acne?

Home remedies for cystic acne include a wide array of things that you can do. Cystic acne can be a very problematic issue especially in teenagers and mostly happens due to hormonal imbalances.

  1. Baking soda:

The main remedy among all the others for cystic acne is the use of baking soda. Baking soda does wonders on cystic acne. It acts as an anti-inflammatory agent which largely reduces inflammation. It extracts the excess oil from the skin and removes all the dead skin cells and also helps to get rid of cystic acne. It eliminates all the impurities from the skin pores through exfoliation.

Baking soda also acts as an antiseptic and kills all the bacteria in the skin. Combine baking soda with water and apply the dense paste on the affected area and wash away after a few minutes.

The remedy for cystic acne will tighten your skin and give you a more radiant and glowing outlook. Don't worry about acne scars. Your skin will improve rapidly and all you need to do is have patience.

  2. Apple cider vinegar:

Among the other agents that you can use is apple cider vinegar which is well known for its astringent and anti-bacterial properties. It will maintain the pH level of your skin. Apple cider vinegar contains malic acid which helps in the exfoliation of your skin.

  3. Tea tree oil and lavender oil:

Among the essential oils, tea tree oil and lavender oil are very helpful but never apply them directly on the affected region. Mix them with water or carrier oil or some moisturizer and then apply the mixture. They will unclog your oil glands and remove all the impurities.

  4. Exercise regularly:

Exercise reduces stress and anxiety which play a major role in acne development. Doing exercise regularly leads to increased blood circulation to the skin cells which results in the nourishment of skin cells.

  5. Turmeric mask:

Turmeric has anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties which help to fight against acne infection and reduce it. Turmeric also contains antioxidant properties that help to remove free radicals in the skin and reduce the natural ageing process.

  6. Reduce stress:

Taking stress leads to the secretion of hormones which results in sebum production and makes the situation worse. Practice relaxation exercises like yoga, meditation which help to relax your body and mind.

  7. Aloe vera:

Aloe vera helps fight skin infection and relieves skin burns. Just apply aloe juice to the acne.

  8. Green tea:

Green tea is greatly beneficial in the case of acne. It has antimicrobial and antioxidant compounds. It can also be applied to the affected area as a face wash.

  9. Cinnamon and honey mask:

Cinnamon and honey possess antibacterial properties that help to kill the bacteria responsible for causing cystic acne.

Some other home remedies include the usage of honey, coconut oil which is very effective in removing acne scars, egg white, turmeric, juniper oil, and many other day-to-day things that are very easily available.

Summary: Acne can be treated by applying Coconut oil, cinnamon, honey, mint, aloe vera, tea tree oil, lemon juice, turmeric, and toothpaste. Avoid stress, dairy products. Maintain a healthy lifestyle and exercise.

Are there any side effects of remedies for cystic acne?

Natural home remedies for cystic acne are usually considered safe. They are safe when compared to chemical products. But yes, there will be side-effects if you don’t use the right ingredient for your skin. You must know your skin properly to avoid any side-effects.

Also, you must know if you are allergic to any of the home remedies. If you have an allergy to a certain oil or food, applying it to your skin will certainly affect it, and applying it to acne will even aggravate it more. If you have extremely oily skin, then better avoid oils. You can apply them but you have to know which oil can clog your pores.

Using wrong oils can lead to the formation of whiteheads on your skin. Also, check whether the oils or any other natural product that you are using has not expired. Because if you use any product that is too old then also you may get rashes.

It is always recommended that if you have sensitive skin, then you must try and avoid acidic products like vinegar. So it is even better to perform a patch test before applying anything directly to your acne.

Now, what is a patch test? It is not that tough. All you need to do is put a small amount of the product on the inside portion of your arm, and then you can wash it off say about 15 minutes later.

Then just wait for two days to see if you get any rashes or any other kind of irritation. If yes, then do not use the product, and if no, then well and good, you can use the product on your acne.

Summary: Despite being effective, certain home remedies have some side effects which vary from person to person, so choose your home remedy only if you are not allergic or sensitive to the particular substance. Do not use any home remedies in excess as it may be harmful to health.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

  • Well, curing cystic acne is not the ultimate solution. Even after the remedy, you have to take care of your skin so that the problem doesn’t return.
  • So if you want to keep acne away you must wash your face regularly and use a cleanser that suits your skin. This will keep your skin fresh.
  • Also, prefer oil-free skin products. Oily products tend to clog your skin pores causing accumulation of dirt and then ultimately leading to acne.
  • Wash your face whenever you sweat too much especially after a workout.
  • Avoid using make-up products that contain ingredients like Isopropyl Myristate and Lanolin because they can make acne come back.
  • Perseverance is the key, understand your skin and practice a good skin care regime.
Summary: Follow the guidelines. Avoid sunlight. Keep your face clean and moisturize. Take plenty of fruit juice.

How long does it take to recover?

That is not certain. It depends on the acuteness of your problem. But most people give up in 1 or 2 weeks. Don’t do that. Wait for at least a few weeks, say about at least 4 to 6 weeks. If you notice your past acne drying up, that means your treatment is working. Be patient and continue the same remedy and you will have your results in a few months. With time you will see that even the scars will disappear.

Are the results of the home remedies for cystic acne are permanent?

Nothing is permanent in this world. Not even the results of cystic acne remedy. It may come back at any point in time. But it won’t if you take good care of your skin. Stay clean and wash your skin properly. We all crave perfectly spotless skin. But you can’t just get it by sitting idly.

Improve your diet and exercise regularly. This will help your body in detoxification and will give you glowing skin. Use turmeric paste or aloe Vera gel one or two times a week. If you follow all these guidelines properly, you can resist acne from coming back.

Is there any training or experts required to perform these natural remedies for cystic acne?

No training or experts are required for treating acne. Home remedies are enough to treat it if you can follow the guidelines properly. Don’t say home remedies are not useful before even trying them. Try the remedies that seem fit to you and then see the results for yourself.

Even then if you are not happy, you are free to visit a dermatologist but remember, it is always preferable to use natural things than chemical treatments. So prefer home remedies over chemical treatments.
