A body has its own 'language', and whenever something goes wrong, it always makes sure to send across some signals. While some of these signals are rather obvious, such as pain or fever, others are quite subtle, such as a slight change in the color, texture and appearance of your fingernails. However, these subtle changes are often overlooked until it's too late.

Fingernails can unveil the most dreaded diseases, some of which can be fatal if they are not treated in their initial stages. Thus, it is important to pay attention to even the slightest change in your fingernails.

Having said that, let's try to analyze what your fingernails indicate about your well-being

  1. The half moons at the base of your nails: Healthy nails are pink in color and the moons near the nail base should be light pink to white in color. The half moons at the base of your fingernails are a signal of good thyroid health. In case, they are missing, then it is a sign of poor thyroid health. Poor thyroid health can lead to thin hair, depression, mood swings as well as other problems.

  2. The nail texture: Healthy nails are always smooth, without grooves, spots, ridges or discoloration. And, if you see that your nails have changed in texture, color, shape, thickness or have developed any other unusual growth pattern, it’s time to visit your doctor.

  3. Brittle or crumbly nails: Brittle or crumbly nails can be a sign of aging or excessive exposure to nail polish or detergents, but sometimes it can also indicate a fungal infection.

  4. Discolored nails: A slight change in the color of your nails conveys a lot about your health.

    • Yellow nails can be due to a long usage of nail enamel and a possible fungal nail infection

    • Green-black nails can indicate a bacterial infection.

    • Bluish or purple fingernails may indicate oxygen deprivation.

    • Grey nails can be because of certain medications.

    • Brown nails can indicate malnutrition or a thyroid disease. Nails that are half white and half brown may indicate kidney disease or AIDS. Also, your nails can turn brown post-chemotherapy as well.

    • White nails can be a sign of aging, iron deficiency or fungal nail infection.

  5. White lines across nails: Lines that run parallel on your nails can be a sign of low level of protein in the blood, which can be due to malnutrition or liver diseases.

  6. Dents on the nails: Small dents on your nails can indicate problems such as eczema, psoriasis, alopecia areata and reactive arthritis.

  7. Loose nails: When the nails become loose they can easily separate from the nail bed, which can be a sign of infection, injury,  poor circulation, thyroid disease, psoriasis or an allergic reaction to medicine.

Homeopathic remedies for nail fungal infection:

In case of problems related to your nails, homeopathic remedies can provide best results. For instance, homeopathic medicines like sabadilla, causticum, mag. pol and others can help in solving nail problems.
