Dengue is a vector borne infectious disease, which spreads through bite of dengue virus infected Aedes mosquitoes in tropical and sub tropical areas mostly. This disease is a viral fever and the virus is dengue virus which have been known to have 4 types of strains or subspecies of dengue virus. These strains are spread mostly in Delhi and among these type 4 strain of dengue virus is rare and very dangerous according to AIIMS survey held last year. The most common symptoms are high fever associated with chills, rigor may or may not be present, Joint pain occurs in all big and small joints though small joints are less frequently involved, severe dehydration and bleeding tendency is also known to occur frequently. Dengue rashes are hemorrhagic red rashes which develop after 7 days of dengue fever over face, thorax and flexor surfaces of body due to thrombocytopenia. Diagnosis of dengue is only confirmed by ELISA test in any district or government hospital. So avoid rapid diagnostic kit in local pathological laboratory as kit test shows 50% false positive. If high fever occurs in this season, then get it treated and diagnosed urgently. Take care.
