Dear sir, My brother's daughter who is aged of 7+ years not able to speak. She speaks Only few words like amma, baba etc. She will be always irritated. Please suggest us for any hospital for better treatment. Went to many hospitals with no use. They just gives some syrups and tablets We were so happy when she born because she is the first baby girl in our family (joint family with 19 people) after 100 years. Whenever anybody tries to talk or go near to her, she will start crying. We are all thinking about her all the time. Please understand and suggest a doctor or treatment or hospital. We all will be thankful to you and your family. Please sir, help us out.

Yes, do not delay as early therapy - Speech therapy is important but first it has to be seen if it is just expressive language problem or a pervasive developmental disorder or a hearing problem. A child like this also needs 2 -3 hours of patient one on one interaction with the mother or father who can - 1. Speak short phrases with the child- will have to learn these tips from someone. Instead of getting the child what they want, show two things and ask if they want this or that- If the child attempts to say the name of the object, give it. However do not frustrate the child. The parent will need to learn these from a trained therapist. 2. Model- Eg on a Slide- Say SSSSlide. Or while pushing the swing - say Push. Bury objects in sand and as you dig them out, name them. Use single words or short phrases. Eg Mom is cooking. Or Mom is eating. Yum. Break words into shorter ones- eg toffee - to Taw and Fee. Talk about the child- eg Karan wants the red car. Etc.
